I just got flashbacks of sitting in my University apartment and saying "just get this one paper done and you have the whole weekend."

When you say developing the employee does that include motivation and reward or is it something like conflict resolution, at least the emotional intelligence part?

This would depend on how someone defines "Job Performance"

A conformist manager would state "how many projects x delivers in y", for me thats not performance, performance for me would be defined exactly as permy manager's CEO defines it, in shareholder value or how much profit I generate.

If you are looking for advanced EQ I think you are on the wrong website.

There are some decent online resources on this area from HBR from memory.
