''Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has been hospitalised with 'serious but not life-threatening' injuries following a road accident during his own charity event in Tasmania.

 

Webber was taking part in the latest leg of the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge – a 250km endurance event consisting of mountain biking, kayaking and trekking – when the accident occurred on a remote road near Hobart.

 

The 32-year-old is reported to have collided head-on with a car and was airlifted to hospital with injuries including a broken leg.

 

He is now said to be a in stable condition while his injuries are not life-threatening.

 

"At 12.40pm we received reports of a collision between a bicycle and a motor vehicle on the Fortescue Bay Road on the Tasman Peninsula," Sergeant Jon Ford of Tasmania Police was quoted by the Press Association. "The collision was initially attended by paramedics attached to the event.

 

"He was airlifted from the scene by helicopter and taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he is now being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

 

"He suffered a broken leg and other injuries and is reported to be in a stable condition."
