The Aral Sea Between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, once the 4th largest inland sea in the world, began to dry up after the Soviets diverted the two big rivers feeding it for cotton field irrigation. The problem is convincing the third-world countries that will be flooded and lose half their land to do it for the benefit of the rest of the world.
