Laptop problem

For some reason the pointer on my Compaq has gone mad. It just goes all over the place without me touching the gimble on the keyboard. Can't use it now, does anyone have a clue how to solve this

Now it just goes to the top right hand corner an refuses to move

Use a USB mouse?

VirusScan it. Clean the touch pad.

Came across this before using a Toshiba laptop. The problem resolved itself eventually, but not before a lot of faffing around, including an OS re-install, and it was intermittent as well. As SS says, use a USB mouse. It solves the problem.

Have you cleaned it lately?

I gave mine a spray with the screen cleaner by accident and thought that I had f*cked it. After a few hours it seemed to dry itself out and work fine.
