What scummer said. Set yourself some criteria each TV must match. For me it was not just 1080p, but its SD image had to be good (since most of what you watch will be SD) and it had to have decent inbuilt speaker since we dont use surround sound.

Avoid that TV though mate, its horrible

I know. The price jumped out at me first, then I realised that I know the sum total of f*ck all about HDTV so was looking for the unique brand of advice only available on this site :)

This would be your best bet right now, a mate has got this one and I have been very impressed with it.

Well worth paying the extra £30-£50 over a cheap non branded set.

I probably will go for branded over unbranded, and that one does look a whole lot better, but sadly I've still got to keep the mrs happy by finishing decorating the lounge first :(

Thanks for the advice, I'll start teaching myself about HDTV. But if one of you were looking to buy a TV at the moment, is there anything in particular that you'd define as 'must have'?

Cheers,

1080p, 3 hdmi sockets, decent inbuilt sound, 2 or 3 scarts, side mounted VGA/DVI

To add to what badge said look for a high contrast ratio 5000+ and refresh rate 5ms or lower if poss.

As people said the TV needs to suit your needs, some are better with football but not so good with games consols. I bought my Samsung specifically for gaming.

Heres a good site http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/

PS dont go anywhere new that TV you were looking at!!

The reaction to that TV was probably close to what I was expecting.

I have to admit that I'm probably more interested in the gaming side of things at the moment, but I will check out that link before I think about spending my hard earned cash!
