• Marian Pahars appointed head coach of Skonto FC

    Saints Legend Marian Pahars has been named the new head coach of Latvian champions Skonto FC.

    The former striker stepped up from his role as assistant yesterday after predecessor Alexander Starkov left for FC Baku of Azerbaijan.


    Pahars made over 100 appearances and scored over 50 goals for the club in two spells in between which he made himself a cult hero at Southampton over a seven year spell and a short stay at Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta. He also notched up 75 caps for Latvia, scoring 15 goals.
