• Saints drawn away to Stevenage

After receiving a first round bye for the first time in seven years (the joy of being back in the top flight...), Saints will enter the league cup at the second round stage with an away trip to ambitious League 1 side Stevenage.

Stevenage held Spurs to a draw in the FA Cup last season.

Stevenage F.C. have a history of upsetting the odds in cup competitions. As recently as last year they held "He who shall not be named's" Tottenham Hotspur side to a 0-0 draw at home before losing 3-1 in a replay at White Hart Lane.

Stevenage have risen quickly to League 1 level after gaining Football League status in the summer of 2010 and making it as far as the League 1 promotion play-offs last season before losing at the semi-final stage to Sheffield United. The 'Boro will provide stiff opposition in our first ever competitive meeting and at an inconvenient time as we look to find our feet in the Premier League.

The match is set to take place during the week beginning on the 27th August. The exact day, kick-off time and ticket details will be established soon.
