• Tim Flowers takes the reigns at Stafford Rangers

Former Saints keeper Tim Flowers has been appointed the manager of Blue Square North side Stafford Rangers.

It is the first step into management for the former England man after several years as assistant to ex-Saints team mate Iain Dowie at Coventry, QPR and Hull City.

Flowers played between the sticks 192 times for Saints between 1986-1993 after signing from Wolves, and went on to be Britain's most expensive goalkeeper when he moved to Blackburn for 2.4 million. Spells at Leicester and Coventry followed before he moved into coaching.

He also gained 11 caps for England.

Former Leicester team mate Matt Elliott joins him at Stafford as his assistant.

Usually I would say goalkeepers don't make great managers, but ours is working out pretty well, and I am sure all Saints fans wish Tim all the best.
