    STORY OF THE GAME:

Quick-fire goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli downed Saints and left Ronald Koeman cursing his side's 'amateurish' defending.

The first half was evenly-contested but the pattern of the game was decided by a three minute spell just before the interval.

Having failed to capitalise on opportunities to score, Saints were punished when Erik Lamela and Alli combined to set Kane free.

The England forward beat Virgil van Dijk before poking past Paulo Gazzaniga to give the visitors the lead.

That lead was doubled just three minutes later when Kyle Walker's low cross was converted at the far post by the unmarked Alli, who had drifted past a motionless Southampton defence.

Saints substitute James Ward-Prowse forced a save out of Hugo Lloris in the dying moments of the game, but it wasn't enough for Saints, who remained 12th in the Premier League table and just seven points above the drop zone.
