  1. He was a great bloke as well. As a student, I used to work in the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu and one afternoon a woman walked in, bought a drink and asked me what it was like living in the village, as her and her husband were thinking of moving in. I asked what he did and she said he plays football and is signing for Southampton and sure enough they bought the house up the road and he used to come in quite regularly until I left to go to college the following September.
  2. Or Bournemouth contribute to ours as they play Everton on that day. For us to have any chance (and I am in the no hope category already) we would need to beat Bournemouth and for them to them beat both Leeds and Everton in their remaining fixtures - that makes them safe. So we'd need to get ahead of 3 of these 4..... Leeds (hopefully) may not get another point - Bournemouth (A), City (A), Newcastle (H), West Ham(A), Spurs (H) - we'd need a 6 point gain (GD would probably also swing in our favour with those results) Leicester - Everton(H) , Fulham(A), Liverpool(H), Newcastle(A), West Ham(H) - we'd need at least a 7 point gain to negate GD and a draw at Everton plus whatever else they pick up Everton - Newcastle(H), Leicester(A), Brighton(A), City(H), Wolves(A), Bournemouth (H) - at least a 5 point gain needed, GD may take care of itself if that happens - assumes a draw at Leicester, but can't see them losing all the others - Bournemouth especially will literally be on the beach. Forest - Brighton(H), Brentford(A), us (H), Chelsea(H), Arsenal(A), Palace(A) - if we beat them, then maybe they would pick up 3 or 4 points. There's always a strange few results at this stage of the season, but I think the escape total will be relatively low. And also out of our reach as I just can't see us putting the run together that would take advantage of the small chance of all those results going in our favour. It's the hope that kills you.....
  3. This confirms things I think.
  4. I played in at least one of those against Arsenal at the Sports Centre. I took a call from my wife before the game where she told me she was expecting with our first, who is now 19 so yes, ages ago.
  5. And Armani little was sent off for Forest green rovers against our u21s (we lost)
  6. Ryan Seager has turned up near me, at National League Dorking Wanderers - https://www.dorkingwanderers.com/post/ryan-seager
  7. Thanks for doing these over the season, it's always a highlight for me, even when we've been shite (again).
  8. If you use this "difficulty predictor" and extend it to the end of the season, Newcastle are bottom - i.e. hardest set of fixtures and Burnley are 3rd from top - https://www.footballfallout.com/fantasy-football-planner could still be interesting.
  9. This is very valid. I know Marc Guehi through family, he told me they (his age group and those around him) were delighted that Lampard (and more directly, Jody Morris) were appointed because they had already worked with them and knew they would be in with a chance. Mount took his chance, but it is possible he might not have got it otherwise.
  10. From the FA website - no replays in the FA cup for 3rd and 4th rounds this year apparently..... Ties in the third and fourth rounds of this season’s competition will be played to a finish on the day, with extra-time and penalty shootouts if required.
  11. Must admit, that was my thoughts on the first goal as well. Salisu sees the ball coming, he can also see Tella (I think) free on the corner edge of the box and a clearing header to him, or just in front of him puts us on the break. That would be heading the ball back at a narrower angle and further away from the goal but instead he heads it at a wider angle into the centre of the goal. Just my opinion, but I think he could do better there.
  12. As a kid going through 6th form, I had a part time job in the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu in the mid 80s. One day a stunning woman walked in and came up to the bar, bought a drink and asked me what it was like living in the area. I said it was a lovely forest village if that’s what you’re looking for and we chatted for a bit. During that, she said her and her husband were moving down as he was a professional footballer and had just joined Southampton. They bought that house and Russell Osman became a bit of a regular on a Sunday afternoon/evening (halves of lager if I recall correctly).
  13. I read an article a while ago on the incentives City offer to youngsters joining the academy, which includes things like paid for private education for them from that point on, irrespective of whether they get released on not. The whole thing was quite eye opening on the extent to which they go to to sign talent. I get the point about actually playing for them, but you could see why it was attractive to sign for them irrespective. I agree with your point about Chelsea. While Lampard and Morris where there, the youth could see opportunities to play 1st team football, mainly because Morris worked with them at youth levels before becoming assistant manager.
  14. I know Marc and his family quite well. Despite Covid, he came to present awards at the Youth Football club I help run a few weeks ago (he also made a sizable donation to the club, which will fund about a third of our costs for training on the local 3G pitch for the season) and I've had conversations with them in the last week after the Palace story broke as obviously I've been quite keen on him joining us! I was told that some contact had been made in the past, but I got the impression our interest never really firmed up either then or more recently. I guess the club probably have the same conversations with several players at any given time. CB is a hard position to fill at PL level for someone his age but he is certainly a well grounded, hard working young man who is clearly driven to do the best he can. Personally, I'm disappointed we didn't pursue our interest as I'm sure he'll do well and maybe at some point he'll come to us - the family spoke very highly of the club and their reputation every time we spoke about it.
  15. I know that this does have some legs (not the "Plan A" part, I've no idea of that as I've no connections in the club and never have had). Only in the sense that we are presumably putting out messages of interest to several other players in that position in the background as well as Marc to see what comes back, but he is on our radar (no idea if that's 1st choice, 100th choice or what and you'd assume we would be keeping track of someone like him coming up through the ranks at other clubs all the time).
