  1. It's odd isn't it. I've seen plenty of quickly taken free kicks which are effective, going back to Terry Paine (!) but none recently. We've a few effective long passers too. The other thought occurred to me when I saw Fraser standing next to Bednarek. Would it not be more effective for Fraser to stay up for defensive corners, thus occupying probably two defenders. He's a strong player but goodness, he's not there in the box for height or for aerial prowess.
  2. Don't be silly! He had to pick the ball out of the net for the reserves on numerous occasions.
  3. My blood pressure just asked: "can we make it 3?"
  4. Well SA has been looking weary so an appearance from the bench seems reasonable against a physical Watford side. Maybe Bednarek is still not 100%? I certainly don't know but if it keeps a few posters happy that they can trot out their glib 'shoehorn' cliché then look on it as care in the community..
  5. Funny that, it's exactly the opposite in women's football! But in Mara's case let alone the extra weight I'm sure it's impacting his peripheral vision and proprioception, although him getting caught from behind on Tuesday night might just have been laziness and lack of awareness..
  6. Could be, but that would never be recognised by the wise ones on this forum who insist "play your best team" as if the players were all automatons.
  7. Maybe RM was trying to make a point? "Make it difficult for me to drop you" or "here's a chance to earn a start" or the like. Whatever the motivation he threw the chance away.
  8. Another game where we really should have been more relaxed at the end, but the start of OWTSGMI 5 minutes from the end was a sign of the crowd's confidence that Cov wouldn't score again. The crowd was also right in making Aribo MoM as he made things happen and was really putting in an effort too, although THB was strong in defence. Nobody looked out of place in that team except perhaps Brooks, who doesn't seem to be performing as well as we have seen before; didn't he play more centrally for Bourneouth? Some wayward passing at times, but that may partly be explained by over-ambition and a bit of over-confidence, which is certainly better than the alternative! I called Mara coming on before it happened but not in the position he played. He's a lot stronger than he used to be but that seems to be combined with less motivation, if that were possible. I really would like to see Dibling and SAA have a chance; perhaps when we're 3-0 up in a game...
  9. Also his concentration dropped at the end and his marking for their goal was poor. But let the posters get their sarcastic jokes in. The odd sarcastic comment would be fine but some of them are unremitting and tiresome; it seems their only form of humour. The sun is out so a leisurely stroll to the only local pub with Sky to watch the game, just hope they've remembered to renew their contract, unlike ast time!
  10. I was reading yesterday an article about football injuries that said many professional players were more bandy legged (see above..) although it wasn't clear whether from training or natural selection, but it helped with the twisting and changes of direction required in the game. I watched a bit of Stewart's appearance in the U23 match, and although he was playing down a level he still had that look that makes it obvious the player you are watching has something about them. Let's all cross our fingers..
  11. Yes, the poster was obviously well informed on the subject, and now we know. I'll have a look at that video when I've a moment. I've been in a 747's cockpit on landing once (thanks Fitzhugh F of this parish!) and it is some beast.
  12. I can just imagine.. one lone constable thinking 'oh f....... !'
  13. A pig of a game then? Did Chester park the minibus?
  14. Embarassing in Sunday football too!
