St Joan's Achievements

  1. Yes, I had a phone call on Monday. James, who normally works in the ticket office but was calling from his home, was checking that I am okay and asking if I needed any help. Nice touch by Saints to use their employees in this way.
  2. It didn't work for me either. I tried ipad and TV, both of which have been fine for previous matches.
  3. More opportunities linked to the Saints Foundation from the southampton.gov.uk website News Stories Southampton City Council Press Releases New state-of-the-art community sports hub in St Mary`s 12/05/2014 On Thursday 8 May, after several years of hard work, Southampton City Council’s Housing team (in partnership with the Saints Foundation and other partners in the city) celebrated the official launch of a state-of-the-art, £150,000 multi-use games area (MUGA) in St Mary’s, Southampton. Southampton Football Club Chairman Ralph Krueger and defender Jose Fonte were among the crowd who gathered to open the new facility (the Saints Hub), which will benefit local communities in St Mary`s - and anyone else in Southampton who would like to make use of the venue. The Saints Hub has been funded by the Saints Foundation (the charitable arm of Premier League football club, Southampton FC) and the Premier League Community Facility Fund (PLCFF). The event marked the completion of a project which has seen the council work closely with the Saints Foundation, residents of the Golden Grove estate, St Mary’s CE Primary School and Groundwork Trust over the past six years, to establish this important community sports facility in the grounds of the primary school on Ascupart Street. Already, local school children and residents in and around the estate are making good use of the MUGA – and just in time for the World Cup! We hope they will be inspired and able to follow in the footsteps of their footballing heroes, thanks to regular football coaching sessions run by the Saints Foundation. Nick Cross, Head of Housing Services at Southampton City Council said: “Thursday`s event marked a special achievement, after years of hard work. I am delighted our residents and local students now have a luxury sports facility to make use of, and I wish our budding footballers the best of luck… “The council has worked tirelessly to support the project – along with our partners - and we’re grateful to our residents for their contribution to the project. “Having also landscaped the old games area on the estate, we hope our residents will feel proud of Golden Grove – this project is just one example of the council’s commitment to improving its housing estates across Southampton, in line with what residents want, and it was great to celebrate with our residents.” David Bruce lives on Golden Grove estate and has been involved in the project from the start. He said: “It’s taken over six years and a lot of hard work; so the whole community is delighted to see it finally open. We’ve had to apply for funding, find a site, work with the school and overcome a lot of red tape including planning and even archaeology issues to get the games area developed… A huge thank you to everyone involved. We’ve done it!” The new facility gives the community a chance to participate in sport in a safe environment, and the opportunity to benefit from some expert coaching. Led by residents and funded by the Saints Foundation as part of their commitment to raise £1 million each year for projects which benefit communities in Southampton, the MUGA project is an excellent example of how effective partnership working can bring about big changes that benefit local communities. Free football coaching for local children: The Saints Foundation currently funds free open access coaching sessions at the MUGA (for anyone aged 5 - 19 in Southampton) on the following days: Friday 6 – 8pm Ages 10 – 19 Saturday 10 – 11am Ages 5 - 7 Saturday 11am – 1pm Ages 8 –11 If you would like further information about the sessions or would like to hire the Saints Hub, please contact the Saints Foundation on 023 8071 1948 or email foundation@saintsfc.co.uk.

  5. No need to panic. Brian McDermott will probably win. Then watch what happens to Reading's form!
  6. Yes he was. He took part in the warm-up exercises and the first kick around but then stood with NA and watched the second session.
  7. This is right, but it wasn't a text-to-enter competition. It involved voting on a website which you could do repeatedly day after day.
  8. It seems that this is what will happen. I spoke to two stewards at the stadium this evening and they said that the plan was to put them altogether for Saturday. They also said that members of Markus' family will be coming to look tomorrow as they had been amazed to hear of the many fans' tributes.
  9. In the new 'Supporter's Charter 09-10 season' on page 4, the 4th bullet point states: "For home cup fixtures, season ticket holders will be given a priority period to claim their seat". Note: "their" seat not "a" seat. So the Club is not following its own guidelines for the Luton match. I can understand having to move for the early rounds of the JPT evening matches, when a small crowd was anticipated, but I cannot recall ever having to move for a Saturday FA Cup match before.

  11. It was a most entertaining match. What impressed me most was the speed of some of the players, in particular Preen, Hoskins and McLean, and their ability to control the ball and then shoot as they ran. They would have scored more if it hadn't been for Hereford's best player, their goalie. Another player with pace was Jordance Holder Spooner who came on as a sub. He is built like Antonio and has good awareness of what the other players around him are doing. Tafazolli and Racine are an excellent centre back pairing and they looked in control throughout. Some promising players for the future.
  12. Two interesting reports about SMS last night and some fans' comments: http://www.johnstonespainttrophy.com/news/2009-2010/
  13. I agree 100%. With Christmas not too far away, perhaps we could send him cards expressing our thanks.
  14. Did anyone else notice at half-time that, instead of the subs doing their normal kick about, two of them were on the wings and were putting in crosses to Rasiak. He was then heading, volleying or just tapping them into the goal from all angles. After watching that impressive display, it was no surprise when he scored from his first touch.
