I think when you need someone to be told they are unexpectedly playing 30 minute before kick off you would go for the most experienced option available. it's a totally different situation in the players head to coming off the bench once the match has started. I'm pretty sure we'll see Lumley starting the rest of the games, having had time to mentally prepare himself.

Best way to improve atmosphere at SMS (and probably any other ground) would be to open the turnstiles 3 hours before kick off and serve beer (and a wine for the lady) in the concourse from then till kick off at prices lower than any local pub.
