  1. Downes was top drawer today. I watched him all second half. He constantly stamped out turnovers in midfield, dominated his opposite number, giving the defence the cover it has needed. On top of that, every pass he made was successful, every single one.
  2. Not at all. VAR run competently (for fouls) is still subjective, you just move the decision to somebody in a box rather than the onfield ref. They'll still be arguing about if a VAR decision was correct on MOTD. VAR for offside has reached the level of pedantry IMHO. If a VAR ref needs more than 30 seconds and requires lines to be drawn on screen, either stick with the onfield decision or give the benefit of the doubt to the striker. VAR has ruined some of enjoyment I get from going to games. It feels like a weight of my shoulders this season tbh. VAR has required stupid changes to the handball rules & offside rules. People sitting on their sofas love it, I bet the majority of fans who go to games would now prefer it to be scrapped.
  3. Never got a fair shake from the manager or fans. He causes panic in the oppo box and is well capable of 15+ goals in this division. Even though it's against our manager's style, the fact is we are desperate for an outlet for a long ball at times, not having that option even on the bench is ridiculous at any level. I'd be happy to have him back.
  4. Nah, that comes from my experience of playing league football at a decent level for nearly 20 years. lol "agenda". Sounds like your agenda is to defend him regardless of the critisism. It's very easy to make personal attacks huh? Shows you haven't got anything else to say.
  5. 2 assists yes but missed many more opportunities to put Edozie in. Gave away Norwich's last goal the week before. Manning is slow and steady. Fine if you like that sort of thing.
  6. Shame. Manning is a clear weak link, was hoping Perraud would be back asap.
  7. Can't believe nobody said this yet so I'll say it. Wore a fez. If you were there, it was a great day.
  8. I expect boring football, lots of possession but no end product, much like a lot of last season. I expect he'll be gone by Xmas and by then we'll be looking at a playoff place at best, at worst, hoping we can stay up. The board will then hire a league 1 manager manager because there's an even lower budget due to all the previous fuck ups.
  9. Onachu has 2.5yrs on his contract and probably on a decent wage. It'll cost anybody looking to buy him, could be a turn-off for the level of club that would otherwise be interested
  10. We now have Tall Paul, Adams, Armstrong, Mara and Tella all competing for 1 or 2 places. I'd be surprised if any Championship club can afford to have 3 or 4 strikers sitting on the bench or not even making the squad. 1 or 2 may have to go and unfortunately Adams and Tella the only 2 that anybody would want to buy.
  11. Well, defenders in the Prem are stronger, harder and better at clobbering the oppo and getting away with it, that's true. Players like Sam quickly need to learn to protect themselves, the defenders in the Championship might not be quite as quick but they like a tackle
  12. In my experience of playing Sunday league, there aren't many players who would volunteer to get smashed by opposing defenders and midfielders. Defenders will look to hurt youger players early on in the game to keep them in check and hopefully avoid a yellow card by doing it early. Younger players have to watch out for it and avoid it. The accumulation of those knocks often results in their season petering out and failing to hold a 1st team place after a brilliant start.
  13. 2 years ago he couldn't get near the starting 11. He hasn't improved, it is the rest of the squad has got worse. He always gave 100%, can't ask more than that.
  14. I'd start by looking at the 9 clubs which finished higher than Swansea this season. I reckon Martin's biggest asset (to our board) was that he only has a year on his contract to pay out to Swansea. Presumably Lampard turned us down before we approached Martin.
  15. Seems like we're trying to do it on the cheap like we did with our player signings last summer and with Jones and Seles. I predict similar results.
