  1. I have a slightly cynical view on the whole Alcaraz thing. So Rasmus our director of football has a brother who is the founder of a transfer platform called "transferRoom" We signed Alcaraz through the platform. They made quite a big thing at the time out of it and the signing was used massively to promote the platform. I believe it was the first transfer into the Premiership (at least from South America) done on the platform. We've since signed other players through the platform (which we have as a club now publicised as being thanks to TransferRoom. These to me are more than just footballing moves!! The insinuation , particularly with Alcaraz, is that TransferRoom used Saints to advertise itself and position itself!
  2. we are allowed more than 5 loans, however only 5 can be named in the match day squad so someone has to be left out.....the obvious one for me is Holgate
  3. Ok Bad Wolf and Whitey I have a question for you as i am really struggling to understand your logic here. I'm guessing both of you at some point have played competitive football at some level. Are you telling me that neither of you have walked of the pitch at full time and shook your heads in amazement that you have just lost a game you completely dominated and outplayed the opposition yet nothing went for you in front of goal and the opposition have scored from the only chance they had. Then the opposition players say to you as they are trudging off '' we don't know how we won that you were by far the better team" OR The complete opposite where you have played in a game and been battered and outplayed but have won the game and come off admitting "the opposition were the better team" and "we got away with one today lads" Are you seriously telling me that every game Saints have won we were the BETTER team because with more than 50 years of watching Saints i can tell you we have won games where we were definitely NOT the better team and to believe anything different is just being arrogant!
  4. I never want us to lose a game, even when we had that idiot Jones as manager and another defeat might have got him sacked earlier, i just can't want us to lose. However that said i honestly want us 110% focussed on automatic promotion and therefore would not be too upset if we play a similar side against Watford as we did in the last round. If we lose then everything is all about those two automatic promotion spots with no distractions.
  5. wow, just wow. I'm absolutely delighted Ipswich lost and it was a brilliant David v Goliath result but you really must be on some strong meds if you think Maidstone were the better side. Ipswich absolutely battered them and this was one of those games that every Ipswich player out there will be saying in years to come "i can't believe we lost that" It was a freak result, a mixture of cup magic, great goalkeeping, piss poor finishing and every Maidstone prayer being answered. Just because a team wins a game doesnt mean they were the better side!
  6. The 76 side are and will always be heroes in any Saints fans eyes that were young enough to witness that incredible day in May 1976 when the much fancied Man United were humbled by Division 2 Saints. I was only 11 years old at the time but my god i can remember that day and the next day waiting for my heroes outside the Saints pub in Millbrook like they were only yesterday. RIP Mel and thank you for making a kids dream come true.
  7. You do realise that IF we fail to go up this season we WILL have to start from scratch again. There is no way the Saints team currently playing would be the same Saints team if we fail to go up. KWP gone, THB gone, Bednarek gone, Smallbone gone, Downes gone, Sully gone, Alcaraz gone, Frazer gone, Stu Armstrong gone and thats just the obvious ones. Burnley even if they lose players are still likely to be in better position than us and will see themselves as a better bet of going back up rather than worry about us!
  8. I think it is safe to safe Burnley were royally pissed off with us refusing to budge over the Tella deal. Look at the chairmans daughter antics on social media "free Tella". They were made to look very stupid and we were not budging on our valuation. Why would they want to help us back into the Premiership when there is every chance they will be relegated this season!
  9. I would hope this is old news and that it might have been on the cards during pre-season, we certainly needed to sell to balance the books. However the fees we got for some of our players hopefully meant KWP and Stu remain affordable....for now. Lets face it both are probably amongst our best performing players this season and to lose either at this stage of the season would be disastrous to our hopes of promotion.
  10. I love the FA Cup but i will be happy to see us rest most of the starting 11 and give the bench players minutes.
  11. we could all sit here behind our laptops being negative Nancy's and finding fault behind every player we have in our squad, it's so much easier to be negative about things than to be positive. There are those on here that cannot wait for Baz to make a mistake and then come on here and lambast the lad and make him last seasons, this seasons and seasons to come why we didn't or won't achieve this or that and then there are those.... That take a much more level headed approach and accept we have have one of the youngest goalkeepers who is learning his trade, who will make mistakes along the way, is only human like the rest of us, who is excellent in the way we play, who has clearly got better and better as the season has been progressing and has a bright future ahead of himself. Get behind the lad and if you have to be a negative Nancy at least try being balanced and recognise the things he does extremely well
  12. We also get the ridiculous situation where a very young goalkeeper learning his trade is regarded as crap by posters like yourself that will only highlight his errors and find it hard to give any praise at all. He is a very good goalkeeper and we are very fortunate to have him. Certain clubs in the Premiership would not be looking at him if he was crap, they can see the lad has the making of a top goalkeeper. Get behind him like the crowd did at St Mary's last night after he made that mistake. There is not a player in our squad that you cannot say at some point has cost us points because of terrible defensive errors or woeful finishing when it was easier to score!
  13. Anyone hoping we are going on some sort of transfer spending splurge in January needs to adjust their expectations! It is clear we won't be making any "statement" signings that will be challenging our record transfer fee. FFP rules mean we can only really buy if we sell some of those players currently out on loan or Che Adams. Southampton CEO Phil Parsons issues statement regarding January transfer market. I personally think we will look at the loan market. "In the new year myself, Russell (Martin), Jason (Wilcox) and our owners, Sport Republic, will all be trying to keep the squad as stable as possible to keep the momentum going in the right direction. "We will continue to make sure the club is financially safe and won't gamble the future of the club by spending over the odds on players, especially given the constraints of Financial Fair Play. "Thankfully, our squad is strong and the mix of experienced heads and young talent means we're in a good position." Parsons added: "It's so important that the players we have here all want to be here and are committed to playing and fighting for Southampton.
  14. That was a horrible first half from us and we are very lucky to be leading.....however i will happily take an ugly 3 points!
  15. The reality is we DO NOT have a war chest for January and even IF we did we would have to sell first to stay within financial fair play rules! For those with short memories we were fed crap at the end of last season when all these stories appeared saying we were financially sound and did not have to sell any of our players. The complete opposite was true and the cost of relegation was huge, we had gambled with the likes of Tall Paul, we had gambled with that nut job Nathan Jones, the club lost millions and was still paying Ralph!! We have taken more risks with Sully, Stewart and Alcaraz...........Stewart we all know has now backfired and the other two I personally think have been woeful although i still hold hope they might come good. The reality is we need someone to come in for Che to get rid of his wages and a small transfer fee that will allow us to pay a decent loan fee for some out of favour striker. I still think we need a winger/ AM that can actually score and assist!
