  1. Absolutely magic but jeez that was stressful. My pessimistic side had it all worked out.. Saints play well - tick Miss loads of chances - tick Deserve to win - tick Liverpool score a late equaliser - ti.. wait a minute.. Longy yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Cue screams and tears of confusion and joy. Romeo, Yoshi and stephens immense and fair play to Redmond - terrorised them over two legs.
  2. Hi all, really nice to see this up on the forum (tried to pay my £5 as a result but paypal wasn't having it!). Thanks for all the nice comments posted. Rolland was my dad and really was a wonderful man. I hope some of you saw the article in the programme on Sunday. Good article but it was a shame that they didn't publish some of the other drawings my dad did before he submitted the winning design, might be of interest to some on here and now would be as good a time as any to post them. Will try again to subscribe tomorrow and get some of the pics up.
  3. If anyone is still looking for flights, on Edreams.co.uk, if you select Flights & Hotel (not Flights only), you get a better deal. Booked Alitalia, London City to Linate Thu 06.35 with dodgy hotel, back Sat = £122. £286 if you don't select Hotel!
  4. Isn't this the whole issue though. If our next manager is poached in two years it means we've had a successful two years. I'd take it. If Koeman's reign had been mediocre (low/mid table or worse) in the last two years then we'd probably be on the lookout for a new manager anyway, just for different reasons.
  5. My wife kept her surname, just seemed right thing to do - seems daft that women should change their names. We both hated double-barrelled names so we agreed that if we had boys, they'd take my surname and her surname as a middle name. Vice versa if they were girls. We've had two boys so I win. Double-barrelled names should be banned unless they have comical appeal - I have met people with the surname of Turdy and Bastard in the past - they should definitely go for it!
  6. Great post. 100% agree although I feel sorry for Cork having to watch Mane and Long struggling last night - feel he could have made that difference and he should start on Sunday if Davis is not fit. If anyone is feeling down after last night they should just spend a few minutes looking at the Villa forum or maybe RedandWhiteKop - soon puts things in perspective and puts a smile back on your face.
  7. Can't see much wrong here. Don't blame Morgan for wanting to triple his wages and play for a 'bigger' club - maybe Deschamps told him he needed to to get into the French starting 11. He's no doubt peed off that it may not happen. However, can't blame the club either. Unlike the rest who've left, maybe we haven't had an offer we can't refuse and same for JRod. There are more articles out there praising Saints for getting top, top money for players than there are saying its a mess. Maybe now spurs will fork out the 30 mil each for JRod and Morgan. Maybe Koeman has seen that we can replace the others but can't replace Morgan and JRod and said no more. On the face of it, the only thing that is wrong with the club is that we didn't finish in the top 4 last season and yet had a load of players who made the world cup and have supposedly proven that they are top 4 players - that's why we've been offered silly money for them.
  8. I've had trouble with this as well - its new this season. In the family centre, you've got to have a ratio of at least one child ticket to one or two adults. So if you have two adult season tickets and one under 11, you can't upgrade the under 11 to an adult because then you've got three adults and no kids in the family centre. Kind of makes sense but a bit of a pain. They let you upgrade and move blocks out of the family centre if you want to though as I've done for a game or two.
  9. I have two tickets available for Chelsea NY Day in Block 3 Itchen, as friends can no longer make it. Face value £40.00 each. Please email monkeysbannanas@hotmail.co.uk. First come, first served. Tickets will need picking up from Bassett area on Sunday or Monday.
  10. As to whether it should be changed, think I've written on here before that my dad was a graphic designer by trade and as such wanted it changed every few years. Although he's quite proud of it he can't believe its survived this long and would have loved to have designed a new badge himself. I agree with him that it should be updated although the one thing I do like about it is that it is instantly recognisable as Saints, even if you just see a small part of it on the TV or elsewhere.
  11. On the subject of the old badge, who is the best person at the club to contact about getting a look at some of the old material about it. Reason I ask is that my dad (Rolland Parris) designed the badge and although he made a b&w copy of the original artwork he sent in, it would be good to see the original (if its not been lost). A while back I did scan in some of the copies of the stuff my dad does have like his original drafts - could put them up here if anyone is interested. I did try and contact the club a few years back and also the Echo who ran the competition but didn't hear anything back from either of them.
  12. Age 41 - soton born and bred. First home game - Channon's Testimonial in 76 - vague memories of not having a ticket and sitting on my dad's lap in the Upper East. Got first season ticket the next year and had one every year since (apart from few years away studying in Manc). Now take my kids and think I've enjoyed the last three seasons more than any other period since the early/mid 80s (Matt Le Tiss moments aside). First away was League Cup Final in 79, then Nottarf in 84 (in the seats behind the Pompey fans - didn't see much of the game - spent it dodging coins all game and made about £2). Most gutting moment was that season - Adrian Heath at Highbury in the semi - see it still hurts for quite a few of the other posters too. Heroes - Channon, Williams, Le Tiss, Claus, Marian and now Lambert & Lallana. Future hero is Morgan if he keeps progressing like he is and stays with us. PS. My Dad designed the Saints badge - I've dined out on that nugget a few times.
  13. Just watched it on iPLayer - brought another lump to the throat. Also PMSL at my old man getting in shot at 2.00 mins in - the doddery old bloke in the flat cap behind the chap talking (fortunately I was just out of shot). Anyway, special mention to him as he's Rolland Parris (who designed the Saints Crest (which gets applauded and ridiculed in equal numbers)) watching Saints at Wembley for the fourth time (he prefers the old wembley). Anyway, props to him - its his 80th birthday in a couple of months - and he loved it on Sun, loved it I tell you.
  14. My dad's got some old bits - he's got the original artwork he did (he maintains copyright over the artwork itself but not the design - although due to SFC incompetence he had to sign some paperwork when they changed the ball to ensure SFC retained copyright). He's also kept a few of the other designs he did at the time that he rejected. I've been meaning to scan it in for ages - will get round to it at some point. He hasn't got any of the newspaper stuff though. I emailed the Daily Echo a few years back asking for some info but never got a reply. Out of interest, as he was a graphic designer/artist by trade, he's been saying since the 80's that they should update the crest and said that when they updated the ball (which in his graphic mind doesn't work in the overall design) they should have redesigned it completely. He would have loved to have done it himself. Needless to say I disagree with him - I think the crest is great and an instantly recognisable symbol of SFC around the world.
