  1. Murat Yakin, if we could drag him away from Switzerland. We probably could have two years ago. He does however like to give the underdog a chance.
  2. Have to agree with you, Vancouver Saint and Channonwindmill, 18 years ago there was more effort put in, this time it was abysmal. The slow death of Saints since the Liebherrs started to sell the club off in 2017. It’s been a long, hard death after so much hope from Markus Liebherr. Our club would have been in a far different position had he been alive. Just look at the players yesterday. Who ever bought that shambolic team should be sacked. Fulham we’re just not very good either infact, they reminded me of Middlesbrough 18 years ago or as the saying went “boring Borough”. Now to watch if the Liebherrs sell the rest of their stake in the club? The football league are also to blame. Sports Republic should never have been allowed to purchase Southampton. Some fat cat sat at the top agreed to it but it was a dodgy deal in the beginning. The rest of the league is dodgy too, fraud, hidden debts etc not investigated, money laundering so the whole lot is rotten. I say this tongue in cheek “Rishi, are you gonna buy the club”. At least he was there to see us relegated not like the rest of our shambolic owners.
  3. “I like this job” - Portugal veteran José Fonte not ready for retirement, but coaching is in the future Published: Friday, 26 August 2022 00:54 José Fonte will turn 39 in December, but the Portugal and Lille defender has scarcely played as much football as he has during the last year. As skipper of the French side and a regular for the Selecao, Fonte remains as active now as at any point since turning professional some twenty years ago. Fonte was named Lille’s Player of the Year last term, having played every single minute of action in Ligue 1 – the oldest in history to do so – and clocking 49 appearances in total for club and country. As he prepares to enter his 40th year, Fonte spoke to L’Equipe about his longevity and plans for the future. “To maintain myself I have to do my work every week, with double sessions, then train alone at night,” he told the French publication. “It doesn't drain me, it's something I like, it's a lifestyle. I don't see it as something I have to do. It's like drinking water! I like this job, it doesn’t take too much out of me. “I know that if I stop, I will feel my tendons. I’m fine, I know my body well. And if I stop, as soon as pre-season starts, I know I'm going to have problems with my Achilles tendon. That's what you get for having almost 800 games.” While clearly still a key player for his club and a regular in Fernando Santos’ Portugal squad, Fonte’s advancing years inevitably lead to questions over when he is likely to hang up his boots. For the Penafiel-born man, the subject is not an immediate concern as he focuses on the short term. “Right now, stopping is something I can't imagine. I'm starting to get the feeling it's going to happen. In a year, two years, three years, I don't know, but it will happen. But to tell the truth, I only think about the next game.” When that day comes, Fonte has been suggested by some as a potential coach. Lille boss Paulo Fonseca revealed last week that the defender has been a massive help to the technical staff and possesses an influential voice in the dressing room. “Coaching is a real option,” Fonte says. “I have the ambition to coach. I have this thing in me that I want to help. I like to see players grow, improve. I know I have a lot of experience, I know what I can bring. I know football well. It's something I want to do.”
  4. The thing about the Chelsea result is it gives us a bit of hope. It's the hope that kills you as a fan, especially when that hope is dashed in the next game This comment is so true. How many of us have sat in the terraces watching with relegation staring us in the face over the years. When Koeman was with us, we sat in the terraces quite smug not winning the league but not going down. It’s just that since the death of Liebherr, Southampton have been on a downward spiral. on a happier note, did anyone hear Jo Tessam comment that Saints were making meatballs out of Chelsea? Classic.
  5. We have to get behind the manager and the team now. Less negativity, they can do it. Southampton FC also got a mention in PM’s questions this week. Rishi Sunak telling the house that Southampton is his team.
  6. And Man City. Putting on their second team then in the second half deciding to come out of the ditch. Don’t come back neither.
  7. Over the Christmas period 2004 we lost at home to Middlesbrough, we were bottom. Relegated 2005. I meant to say over the Xmas period.
  8. That can mean he’s stressed.
  9. He has to go. Did the owners go for him because he didn’t warrant a high payday? My worry is this, it’s a well known fact that whoever is at the bottom at Christmas is very, very likely to be relegated. Our downfall began at the sale of the club to the Chinese now to Eastern Europeans. Disaster.
  10. He has to be given a chance. Bar the game against Liverpool, he will have plenty of time to get the players on board because the WC is not a problem the majority of the players have been left out. Bella in the squad for Germany isn’t that it? Boxing Day will be the squads chance to shine.
  11. Was there yesterday but sat in the Stratford Stand containing myself especially when we equalised. Our players were booed onto the pitch at the start and again at the start of the second half. They really feel hostile. At the end, when the Saints players went over to thank our supporters with of course our supporters in full throttle, the Utd supporters were shouting f**k off lousy support as they were criticising their own players. Shaw and Maguire clearly couldn’t be bothered and apparently haven’t bothered to turn up since the Euros. Pogba just jogged up the pitch in the final throws of the game. Meanwhile, they attacked our players mercilessly as they couldn’t get their own way because they just, well, are not very good. What a fantastic save made by Fraser Forster with his left hand in the final throws. Ronaldo way, way past his best. Expects the ball on his foot, when it did arrive he didn’t turn quick enough and our players quickly nicked it off him. Just about summed up their day really.
  12. Absolutely, now let’s watch Villa keep him fit. Liverpool couldn’t do what Saints could. I am sceptical that Villa will.
  13. To be honest £100m for Grealish who was no more than a super sub is ridiculous. I didn’t see a decent English striker on the pitches at the Euros. Harry Kane was poor and no amount of chucking his toys out of the pram with Totty has got him anywhere especially with the Grealish announcement. As for Danny, good luck to him, Villa will need to keep him fit. That will be interesting as even Liverpool couldnt.
  14. The Euros showed many teams not bothering with the knee thing anymore. Perhaps it’s time to call it a day over here as well.
