  1. That'll be two errors then, on my part. See definition of 'inertia' (I'm clearly having an off day).
  2. I know this is 'out there', and I very much doubt it would be well received here BUT, if anyone has watched Gary Johnson's Bristol City team in the League Cup this season, he has them playing great football, based on Guardiola's coaching style. Okay he doesn't have Premier League experience, and I wonder whether our players would give him the time of day, bearing in mind he wasn't a top player nor a 'known' manager but, with the same inertia that Pochettino injected when he arrived I think he'd be a good option.
  3. Totally agree. MP was the unfortunate front man stitched like a kipper by the arrogant, ne'er to be seen Reed and the lack of quality incoming players that has to be down to Ross Wilson. I wish him well but don't expect that to be in the EPL.
  4. Added to this. Why is it that both player and backroom staff departures seem to leave with a bitter taste?
  5. Positive Mental Attitude. Send boys onto the pitch with a view to scoring and, guess what, you score. Send them out to contain and you're not likely to win. Let's hope MP finally takes note!
  6. The very same John Williams that we were heavily linked with prior to Ralph's appointment.
  7. Both spot on. A striker is only as good as the service he's provided and it's criminal that Gabbi has been wasted by the abject service. For some inexplicable reason we stopped doing the basics when he came back from injury last season and, surprise surprise, he didn't score. This season as soon as Austin was started we got the ball to the byline, crossed it first time and he was on the end of it. Don't get me started on Tadic being played on the right!!
  8. Spot on O.P. The way he's come in and grasped the opportunity he can be our DeBruyne. Let's just hope we can keep him by staying in the EPL
  9. I remember, as a 10 year old, paying ninepence for the Boys Box at the Milton Road end for the first game in the first division versus Man City. (1-1 draw)
  10. If you think about recent history then I believe this to be the evolution of 'The Southampton Way' and what I think we should rename as 'Shot in the foot'! A long contract is no guarantee of a player staying it just protects Saints assets. VVD needs to go now, BUT not Liverpool, and we need to re-invest in at least one proven, premier league experienced, centre back. We haven't replaced Jose yet! MoPe needs to be given a fair crack and it'll take one injury to Jack Stephens or Maya Yoshida and we'll be in the cack.
  11. I'm sure there'll be many people on here that know or knew Griff Lansley. I have known Griff all of my life and, for both of us, our support and love of the Saints began in the 1960's; for the past 10 seasons or so we were season ticket buddies moving from the Chapel to Kingsland North about 5 seasons ago. Griff was a larger than life character, very much a call a spade a spade man. He had a varied working life and spent many years in the local leagues as a goalkeeper and a manager. In more recent years Griff had to retire from work due to ill health however he continued to live a full and varied life. His last game at St Marys was against Hull and he complained then of being unwell; that game certainly didn't help! Since then Griff was in and out of hospital and, earlier this week, Griff died at Southampton General Hospital. He had recently turned 62. Prior to the arrival of Markus, and in our, (Saints), struggles, on leaving the ground Griff would utter 'same sh*t different day'. Griff's passing will arouse memories within the minds of many Sotonians, some good, some not so but he was a salt of the earth character and one that I will miss greatly. RIP Griff
  12. If VVD goes it won't be that we only kept him for season ticket renewals. If VVD goes we won't have kept him! (Sorry).
  13. I have to say I'm still waiting but feel more encouraged; the best part of last seasons performances were drodge. I need to justify, to myself, that my reasons for not renewing become in-valid. ie I'm not having the club take the proverbial by taking my money then offloading VVD and I'd like to hear VVD come out and say he's not going anywhere; having stated that there are a few who I reckon need to go and, until MP's appointment, I thought that Jayrod was one of them. However, if we are going for the pressing game, (or headless chicken chasing), then that's what suited him so now I'm not so sure he should go. Unlike Pochettino's team it sounds as though this guy has a plan B so could be good.
