    Injury Watch

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/24007379.southamptons-ross-stewart-sidelined-end-season/ Widely reported as a hamstring injury. Russell Martin also commented on him pretty recently: https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/24051555.southamptons-martin-reveals-stewart-coping-latest-injury/
  2. Added to the fact he was considered a HG player from an FFP perspective and the total fee would hit the books straight away then it was far from baffling and very logical, especially after the January window splurge.
  3. I think some of this is more accurate than just reducing the fact we have conceded more goals lately to Jack Stephens playing more. I get that its disrupted the CB pairing and personally wouldn't have chosen to do that but IMO Downes absence was a bigger factor in the games we lost (Bristol City and Hull in particular) and as you say other teams have worked out some ways to target us whereas many teams over Dec/Jan seemed happy to sit back and wait for us to beat them. Huddersfield were the team that highlighted it and then Hull in particular carried out a gameplan very well - as opponents are entitled to!
  4. Anyone with two brain cells can see his use of subs (and their impact) has been largely excellent this season. Good in game management and his overall management of the squad, keeping everyone motivated and involved has been a huge plus.
  5. It was a must win game and we won it comfortably overall. Yes there are issues defensively but we also score a lot of goals and in the last two games could easily have had 6 or 7. The amount of games this season where we have really needed to find a goal or two in the last 20 mins and then have done is quite considerable. Amazed at the amount of negativity towards Martin, some of it is ridiculous - we are firmly in the race for promotion, have broken a club record for games unbeaten and quite possibly will end the season with our most ever wins in a league campaign. We are behind two teams who were already proven better than us and one that is having a freak season (and who I think we will finish above anyway - although playoff wise think finishing 4th may end up better than 3rd as would fancy us more over two legs vs WBA than either Hull or Norwich).
  6. Thought both Cardiff and Ipswich very poor, especially on the ball. Ipswich got very lucky the other night, I have rarely seen them dominate an opponent.
  7. Its definitely still possible (albeit unlikely), but we would need at least 8 wind from 11 and likely to win vs at least two of the top 3 away from home. But fair enough, we can only control what we do. Leeds and Leicester were better than us last year and especially Leicester for a good few of the years before that. Personally I would fancy us in the playoffs against any of the teams apart from Leeds. Would rather face WBA than Hull also.
  8. Realistically its going to be very tough to overtake Leeds, despite the two games in hand. Becoming obvious that we will need to win an absolute minimum of 8/11 to have a chance. Also caveat this with I don't think this is some kind of huge failing on Russell Martin's behalf...these teams were better than us last season and the margins are small - we had no right to expext auto promotion and can still consider we have had a great season even if autos become very unlikely in coming gameweeks. Hope fans feel the same because the last thing we need is friction over getting 90 points rather than 96!

    Danny Rohl

Plus the club driving a style of play shift that is almost the entire opposite of Rohl/Ralph.
  10. Typical Ipswich, quite hard to see what they do especially well and yet could have scored 5 in this half. Bristol City been pathetic since Wells missed the chance for 2-0.
  11. Yeah I have rarely been impressed with Ipswich but they always seem to just about do enough, and sure they will tonight. McKenna has done a superb job getting that group of players to be firmly in contention for automatic promotion. Fair play.
  12. Will be interesting to see who we target to replace Wilcox when the inevitable happens. Lots of clubs seem to replace from within but it doesnt seem like there are any obvious candidates within our structure. This stuff seems like Rasmus' bag so sure he will already have an idea of who he wants and probably had conversations. Clearly not got everything right, but a lot of the offield appointments seem to have been decent so far, indicated by the fact Chelsea and Utd who could pretty much get anyone they want have moved for Shields and Wilcox after such short tenures.
  13. Both were controlled finishes into the corner. So low and hard enough for what was required. All the goals yesterday were good composed finishes. As have been a lot of our goals this season actually. Both the goals vs WBA were very well taken for example.

    Che Adams?

We always play better when Adams plays vs when he doesn't. Thought he was good yesterday, especially with his link up play. Hopefully he starts every game until the end of the season.
  15. Basically what we did for the 4 (FOUR) goals we scored away from home yesterday then.
