  1. I’m not particularly referring to Sulemana—I suppose it’s possible he might yet come good—but following another miserable result last night I was thinking about our recruitment record, not just over the last year but over the last several years. What is the ratio of our successful versus unsuccessful purchases, especially when it comes to our larger financial outlays? I don’t really take enough interest in what other clubs are doing to actually be able to judge how our recruitment compares, but right at this moment it feels like we must be pretty low down the success-rate scale.
  2. Rasmus Ankerson ‘high performance expert’ What a sick, sick joke.
  3. I’ve been pretty sceptical about Nathan Jones’s management; but, great credit to him, he’s presided over a fantastic week for us Saints’ fans. Moving JWP further forward has been an astute move and I’ve loved to see the passion of the manager, players and fans at the end of the matches. Feels like we are moving in a positive direction.
  4. Yes, I agree with this. Although the last couple of results have been hugely disappointing and have tarnished what has otherwise been an excellent campaign in the county championship, overall the season has been a memorable one. Winning the T20 Blast was brilliant and I particularly enjoyed watching our younger players performing so well in the 50 overs competition. However, for me, the holy grail as a Hampshire fan is winning the county championship again—49 years and counting, ffs! At least these past couple of seasons we’ve been up there competing; indeed, had a couple of narrow defeats gone our way, this season’s players could have cemented their place as Hampshire legends. Fine margins.
  5. Such a depressing, but oh so predictable start to the season. Yes, Ralph seems like a nice guy; a quality that would be important if he was marrying my daughter, or something, but as the manager of my football team has absolutely no relevance what so ever. Why is he still here? His selections are questionable, his tactics are questionable, his substitutions are questionable; worse of all, apart from Ward Prowse, all of our players, whether they were here when Ralph came, or have been signed since he arrived, seem to have gone backwards in their development. Bottom of the table and likely to stay there, sadly.
  6. Balls have to be changed when then get lost or go out of shape or get damaged in other ways, which seems to be happening a lot this season. What Vince appeared to be saying was that the replacement ball—the one not long after Organ’s dismissal—was palpably newer and harder than the old one, which, if correct, would obviously give Harmer an advantage. Cue a clatter of wickets shortly afterwards. All academic now, of course, along with the dodgy umpiring decisions (even the Essex commentator seemed embarrassed by the one given against Brown in the first innings). Just annoying that another 13 runs would have given us sixteen points, which could make such a difference come the end of the season.
  7. Very revealing post-match interview by James Vince on the Hampshire CCC website. He’s obviously extremely pissed off about some of the officiating in this match. Sour grapes some might say, but leaving aside the question as to whether or not it contravenes regulations to prepare a pitch so obviously in favour of spinners, and also turning a blind eye to some extremely dubious umpiring decisions given against Hampshire, how on earth can it be right that Essex were allowed to exchange the ball for a newer, harder one 30 odd overs into our second innings?
  8. This new bloke in the number 11 shirt looks pretty good. Let’s hope Ralph doesn’t sub him for fecking Redmond in the second half?
  9. Yes, I agree, when Bednarek is good he’s good but when he’s bad he’s fecking awful. Sadly, this sickening affliction applies to most of our other players as well.
  10. Clueless manager, clueless players. Absolutely abysmal performance. Yet again.
  11. One of the most committed Saints performances I’ve ever since. Huge respect and credit to the manager and players for the amazing turn around since October.
  12. I’d prefer not to see Højbjerg playing for the remainder of our season; he is so overrated, especially by himself, and his sloppy back passes put us under pressure for both their goals.
  13. The question as to whether or not catching the coronavirus then gives people long-term immunity is massive. If it turns out that any acquired immunity is only short-lived because, for example, there are different sub-variants / strains of this virus (as per the common cold virus) then building herd immunity or creating an effective vaccine will be extremely difficult.
