  1. Nice cheap tickets - and same at Hull a few days before...but what incentive is there to go when live on TV? Still reckon anyone who makes the trip should be given automatic first shout on semi and or final tickets - like the old voucher scheme of yesteryear. I went for the LC game, and wasn't impressed with the seats now allocated to away fans. Park & ride was OK though - but pubs are a bit of a distance from the ground for a pre-match bevvy. Not sure about this - cheer them on in the mob or sit at home on my own watching a laptop? Seems like a no brainer to me...
  2. Why shouldn't she? Good atmosphere, great performance and her investment looks very sound. Nothing like a night game to raise the spirits - The Dell used to come to life at night and SMS against a London team generates a real atmosphere too. How different people look when they smile - good on you Katrina Leibherr!
  3. Oh for the good old days - great result against top of the league and then off to a team struggling and surrender and look very average. Don't think this will happen but The Cottage not a happy hunting ground for Saints. Decent following might see us over the line with a tight 1-0 - we just can't finish teams off at the moment! Win lose or draw - who cares as long as they entertain? Enjoyed last night bar for the 10-mins after HT - felt we just might sneak it in the end. Might need some new legs - but these are professional footballers! Surely they can play two games a week? Following Saints is so much more pleasurable these days - thought Yosh looked pretty solid - and Chambers gets better and better.
  4. Two things - they don't issue vouchers any more (what are they?) - perhaps all those going to Sunderland should be guaranteed a Cup Semi or Final ticket for attending? Second thing - this should be a subsidised ticket as third visit this year!
  5. Here's my take on it - when we come to get to the semi finals and final - who gets first pick of the tickets? We all know the answer season ticket holders - so what is the point of attending this game - it won't get you to Wembley! Sure if you go to see the mighty Yeovil - you might see a great display - but it could be more like a training game - they are not as good as Burnley! Even the media do not see this as a potential upset or the cameras would be there - so it's a nailed on home win with bells on. We take our foot off the gas and we will get done - I still remember Wrexham in the 5th or 6th round at The Dell in the 70's. We were tumbling down Div.1 and they were 4th Division! David Smallman scored from memory - how sad is that!
  6. Not said much so far but like to sit back and think before posting my thoughts. First off I thought we didn't look too pressured by Arsenal - we gave them 2-goals and one a soft penalty many times not given. We looked a bit out of sorts after the international break, and missed Lovren big time. Not in defense I thought Jos did OK but he isn't the leader that Lovren is! Shaw going off at HT changed our shape; but still we battled on. At 1-0 to teams like this we always have a chance and must confess I still fancied the draw until the penalty. Not going to castigate Boruc - he has made up for that for me already with some matching winning saves. I thought the midfield did really well stiffling Arsenal's stars - and although I can only remember one stray pass from Wanyama - the body check that winded Wilshere was worth watching over and over again. I'm expecting a media backlash - the bubble has burst! All those arrogant Saints fans talking about going top of the league left with egg on their face? Honestly I think we will bounce back at Chelsea with a full squad available and an extra days rest and training. I think the team weren't ready after international duty - they had a rest at the international camps. It showed - only the youngsters seemed to be playing with the same intensity. Not losing was becoming a habit and Sunday's a joy reading all the positive things about my team. Even today some of the press were more than complimentary - I loved the positive spin Pochettino put on the Boruc incident. We as fans could all take note. I hate losing but we can't win them all. I think it shows when at full strength we are a team to be reckoned with - however Lovren is a massive part of our success and any long period without him will see us struggle. I must confess I am still concerned about our goal threat - we looked very lightweight yesterday especially after Lallana went off. Just goes to show how much we rely on Luke and Nathaniel up the flanks. Once JWP dropped in at RB we seemed to play very narrow. Certainly no plan B. Personally next week will be the start of a vacation - so SKY on Sunday in Manchester prior to flying away - so want to go away feeling positive!
  7. I think we generally missed Lovren - he is much more commanding. Thought Jof did alright - but the team lacked something all round. Lambo wasn't at the game but was that because he was up against a half decent German international? I think it was more to do with the passing and delivery to the front men generally.
  8. I went to Sunderland - and I can't understand why with such pace we looked to play him running across the line and not down the wing? He had trouble staying onside - he has terrific pace, but we can't seeem to exploit it. Saying that he was out of the game for long periods of time.
  9. There goes our form - the curse of the MOTM award! :-)
  10. As I managed to go last night here are my views: I went to watch a game of football between 2-Premiership sides and be entertained. Unfortunately neither side were worthy of the tag - and at times I was convinced neither team wanted to win. At times it was almost like watching the first eleven - just not as good. From the back - Davis's districbution was woeful. The back four played it across the back confidently and never looked in any trouble. Fox was virtually a left winger most of the time - but his delivery was woeful too. It's not until you watch a game like last night do you realise what a difference the first eleven offer. We looked sluggish, lacked pace and seemed to slow everything up at every opportunity. Midfield was OK ish - Cork, Reed and Davis were all in the game but did little to get the team moving. Probably too defensive oriented. Forwards - JRod looked menacing all night; Lee did a lot of running but either his runs or the teams passing always managed to pass him by or hit his heels! I don't think his future is in this country at the top level. Then there was Gaston - what can I say? He gets pushed off the ball too easily; gets niggled and has a nibble at opponents when he loses possession; lots of fancy touches - but no end result! He should have buried one on half time but blazed it over - the only real chance created in the first half. The second half wasn't much better - and like many cynical older fans I knew what to expect - and sure enough a needless set piece given away and a calamity spill - 1-0. Changes made us look a bit more interested and then caught on the break. Well that was enough for me - if I take anything away from last nights game - forget the FACup too - it will be an opportunity for the reserves to play again. European qualification through the league is obviously the target for this season. Individually any of the team last nigh could slot in and do a job except for a couple. The defence doesn't look as composed with Davis in goal; Fox is caught out of position too much (but I felt he didn't get much support or cover); Gaston - for a £12-m player he doesn't look the part to me, not sure what it is I think it's attitude. The high pressing game is not his style and I think he needs another club. Sorry to say Tadanari Lee just isn't on the same level. I know I went to watch a game of football, and like every fan wanted my team to win. Useful exercise - not convinced. One final word about the fans - boy have we got some real to55ers following us these days. Sure they sing - but what do they sing. At one stage last night after confrontation with stewards for standing up we got chorus after chorus of "We ****ing hate you" - how does that support the team? Must be getting old as once upon a time I might be amused at the antics of exuberant youth - but honestly I was embarassed for them! I will look forward to Saturday and the game against Hull as it will be the real deal. I have no worries about the defeat, the overall performance as I know know normal service will be resumed then. For those of you who go to SMS regularly - you really don't know how lucky you are to have a first team like us to watch. Going last night really brought it home big time!
  11. I'm in the don't care camp as I'm going to watch a competitive game of football between 2-sides - one of which I happen to follow. On the one hand I want to win every game and stick one on Poyet - on the other I worry about burn out of our talented young squad by over playing them. Yes I know they are professional footballers and only have to play for 90-mins a week (usually) - but this high tempo game is taxing on a body of any age! I know in my heart that anyone pulling on a shirt these days wants to give 100% - but I have my doubts about a couple of them. Gaston (the enigma) is one of them. Sometimes he looks interested - other times he looks lost. Petulant challenges when he loses the ball - and should get booked. This is just the sort of stage he will lose it and get sent off - nice warm bath instead of a cold wet rainy Stadium of Light for another 30-mins! Lee is another one I have my doubts about - he looked absolutely useless at Leeds last year, and seen nothing of him thise year to change my mind. So in summary: I want the win I want 100% effort and honesty I couldn't care less who plays One game at a time For God's sake it's Hull on Saturday not Barcelona!! Trust in Pochettino and the squad Nice to meet some of the first team in with the fans!
  12. Just read this page but for what it's worth here's my take: Ramirez lacks composure in front of goal - that miss early doors was a shocker for a player of his ability. Agree with Duncan his free kicks were truly abysmal but a quality run and finish on 92-mins. Mayuka is not a target man - I thought his redeeming feature was pace. Well I know he was always offside in previous games - but either our midfield were so intent on keeping possession in the 1st half and he didn't run the channels or he was told not to? Kelvin had a quiet night but even then could keep a clean sheet - I blame Fox! Only joking he was one of the better players on the pitch - but I seem to recall 2-defenders backing off and ltting the Barnsley lad shoot - mind you it was a good strike. All the youngsters did themselves proud - nice to see Corky back, with Clyne and Yoshida. Jay Rod looks like a man on a mission - I can't see him being dropped or left out. He has to be the future! Nice touch at the end getting rid of the shirts - but it' was like watching another team! Traditionalist me still like striped red & white shirts and yellow away kits. Black is just all wrong! Good following for a Tuesday night - acoustics very good in a very empty stand. Made the Saints fans sound like 10-times as many!
  13. I'm not saying - with all you fans flocking to Barnsley I want to get served not wait for 30-mins to get a pint!
  14. Turkish a Harrogate boy? Know any of the other lads from around those parts? What pub are you heading for?
