Can someone please remind me the circumstances why the 'Fund Raising' game to be arranged by a group of Saints fans post admin was cancelled.

 

A Pompey acquaintance of mine keeps spouting off it was due to a lack of interest but I recollect that the idea was withdrawn as there was strong rumours of a takeover

 

Would be pleased to know the facts rather than Myths

Waxing rhetorical again Rallyboy?:-) It seems an idea often expressed on this thread but still they keep going somehow..

 

If they do manage a "with one leap he was free" escape they're going to need a fair bit of working capital: any printer is going to extend credit for one game only, any coach company for one away trip, and that's if the suppliers are feeling generous.

Cancelled as soon as a buyer was found.

It wasn't well supported because it was not an official fundraising effort and most people felt it would make absolutely no difference to our plight and so it proved.

Errr... I haven't been following this and not about to try and catch up.... BUT... isn't that impossible now?? I was under the impression there were now three possible scenarios:

 

1. The Portsmouth takeover fails to materialise and the club are ejected from the football league.

2. Portsmouth win enough games to get out of relegation (i.e. winning just about every one of their remaining games), the takeover is completed and they come out of administration, but they are deducted 10 points as they do, thus throwing them back into the relegation mire (NB If they win every game including today's they will be at most 8 points above the relegation zone).

3. Portsmouth get out of administration, but fail to escape the relegation zone. They are thus relegated to League 2, where they will start the season on minus ten points.

Best case scenario for them, they somehow scrape, claw onto survival in league 1. A League we have finished no lower then 7th in. And we now have 37 points from 32 league games in the Premier League.

 

Seriously, who the f**k is laughing now?

So. A rip-roaring NIL -NIL draw on their 115th anniversary against the almighty Stevenage. What a day for the club, what a day for such an incredible entity, that entertains so many, and gives hope to so few.

Sweet, another thing we got over them.

 

Not really - I think we both became league clubs in the same season on the formation of the Third Division South.

 

Until then, the Football League consisted of two divisions with the only member club south of Birmingham being Arsenal.

 

Which means that all those Lancashire clubs having impressive numbers of League Championships in their histories seems not as impressive after all.

 

When the southern clubs were all in the Southern League, Saints won THAT championship 6 times, and Pompey won it twice.

 

Of course, that fact is forgotten by the people at the wrong end of the M27.

There is NO mathematical way they can escape relegation. No more arguments...

 

There is only one way they could escape, but that would mean the FL would have to be VERY lenient on them. I four one, can't see that happening.

 

I know people bleat on about them having already been treated leniently by the FL thus far, but the FL have applied the rules that existed to the letter, the same as they have done to every other club in the same circumstances. We are in uncharted waters at the moment, so the rules are being created every time there is a need to do so. They won't escape punishment, but we'll have to wait and see what the punishment is once the time arrives :D

I didnt realise the skates werent a proper league club until the 1920s, pretty lame really.

 

(When were Saints a proper league club?)

 

But they've only recently become a league club in their latest guise, so any previous entity's don't count ;-)

Back in the day when the Southern League was as important as the Football League, and certainly on a par in terms of quality.

 

Could I just use this thread to say congratulations to Chester who today clinched the Conference North title. Chester went out of existence in their former guise of Chester City in 2010, and a are a proper fans-owned club. Having re-started (after appeal) in the Northern Premier League Division One North, they have now had 3 back to back promotions, so will play in the Conference National next season and have a chance to get back into the Football League.

 

So in 3 years, Chester have been able to get back to the level that Chester City were at when they folded. Who would have thought that was possible?

Simples - all they have to do is complete the takeover, honour the terms of the previous CVA and get enough points from their remaining games to escape the relegation zone.

Is this another of those occasions where they need to know the numbers in advance so they can inform the police?

 

A bit premature isn't it, arranging a meeting that far in advance? They have to wait for the outcome of the court case which is going to take place on the 10th or 11th - isn't it great that by the 7th of April they still have no idea when the most important court case in the history of their club will be taking place :D

Trousers has just become caught up in the minor distraction of being 50 odd places above them, beating the Champions of Europe, winning away at our NEW local rivals, thus securing survival and the accompanying massive financial boost.

 

This has left him disinterested in a mindnumbing 0-0 draw at home to Stevenage - a town which I wasn't aware had a football team, let alone one who would be playing 'their cup final' in Hampshire.

 

A season where we survive but there's the potential for Redknapp to go down, take Cotterill with him while coaching genius Appleton relegates both Blackburn and pompey, could be considered a minor distraction from a takeover that still hasn't completed satisfactorily.

So the T man is excused for the moment.

Secondly, I think a PDT-run Pompey would be hilarious on so many levels. Not least for the moral high ground their pitiful fans will take over having a "community club" that is really just a front for some rich people to get involved in a property deal. Also, with continued mediocrity, it won't bee too long before the novelty wears off and they get fed up with not being able "to be competitive" (win every game) against the lower league's also-rans, which will undoubtedly lead to a massively dwindled support.

 

They're going to be off our radar for many, many years to come. Good riddance.

But as you say, this is the pdt, this is a sham property deal.

 

The community club does not have to die, nor does it need the crumbling wreck of fratton.

 

fratton park may serve as a vanity piece (I know that's difficult to comprehend) and a vehicle for the trust's ego big wigs for their back slapping, but there are perfectly adequate football facilities for them on their island: Moneyfields.

 

the fratton land can go to Chinny, and when he gets his £2m cash 'floater' the down payment for ferris wheels and casinos is in place.

12-18 months down the line the fans will be moaning about "lack of investment". The merest hint of someone with money coming along and they'll sell out.
