Le God for England graffiti

I'm sure many of us remember this on a building near what is now the wetherspoons in canute road in the 90's. I thought it was an iconic image of 1990's Southampton and was sad to see it go when the site was redeveloped.

Question is, does anyone have a photo of the graffiti?

I've tried google to no avail. I'd really like a copy if anyone has one in an old photo album tucked away somewhere.

From memory, I'm pretty sure there was a whip-round at one of the Ugly's Polygon Hotel meetings for the perpetrator's fine!

There was one many years ago on a poster out side The Above Bar Church, the poster said Jesus Saves and someone put underneath but Keegan scores on the rebound.

My brother and his mate went to the old Wembley to watch an England game under Venables, when Matty was at his peak, but not selected. He had a massive bed sheet and written on it was " Where's Tiss Tel you tosser?!" Was shown on TV-hilarious!

I loved the 'You are entering god's country' with the 'Saint' halo logo on the M3 sign that was there for years.

Distantly related - we have a village near here called Walcott that someone added 'Poor Theo' to around the World Cup time..it's still there as far as I know.

There was "Le God for England NOW!" on the bridge in Bitterne that leads to West End in massive red and blue letters.

Also, "God bless the Valley slags" near Oxford Street with some pro Le Tiss stuff (sort of gave away the perpitraitors that)

There was a massive 'LE GOD FOR ENGLAND NOW' graffiti down Ocean Village, can't quite remember exactly what building it was on.

There was also a picnic bench down Eight Acres in Romsey painted completely red and white, with Le God graffiti on circa 1994. SRS and Steve Grant may also remember this?

I remember the one on West End Road, it was there for ages.

I remember there being one in St Mary's, opposite the Dorch when those flats were being built.

Incidentally right by the place where, after being propositioned by a prostitute, my mate turned round and asked me "why did that woman just ask me if I wanted some biscuits?"

The original was def Channon at the 76 final (you can see it clearly if you have the video or DVD), may have been reprised for Boyer in 79?

there was also one top of beaver valley by tibs years ago

the original bevois valley version was on a site called divdev.(something) iirc, you have to be a member now to view the images but i don;t know how you join sorrry.

It was a fierld on the side of a hill with a perfectly done "Crop Circle" spelling out "Le Tiss for England" it was there for a couple of weeks.

That was a sign at the England B game (just prior to France 98 ) when Tiss scored thrice and hit the woodwork twice leading Hoddle to conclude that he wasn't worth including him in the World Cup Squad (in the process actually managing to make Chris Sutton look clever).

You are now entering Gods country - a huge poster was also seen coming in to the city at Millbrook - I managed to get an A4 size and now hangs proudly on the study wall!

Yes you`re right A group of Fords` workers took that banner to the 76 cup final.

There may well of been one at the Devils Punchbowl too.... but there certainley was one on the A34 near Newbury...I know coz I live there.

You may well be correct in that it said "please hod , pick le god !!"

I did all of the pieces of graffiti that are mentioned on this thread. I also wrote 'Long Live Dubcek' on the wall by Haskins in West End. I gave up writing slogans on walls when I discovered this place

There was feature in the Mail on Sunday about MLT that included a pic of it. Try them.

Conversations sometimes end up taking different directions to where they were supposed to go, threads are similar in that respect.
