The owners are absolutely mental and want to be in the Champions League, i'm not sure anyone could get them there with that squad.

There, fixed it for you.

Sacking your manager when 11th in the premier league in your first season back up is up there with Napoleon's invasion of Russia in the daft ideas league.

Not even a massive surprise for me, there have been rumours flying about for months now about his position at Newcastle. On the face of it a deranged decision, but it would come as little surprise if there were indeed other things going on behind the scene. Seems to be the in-thing now of course.

When you look at what position Newcastle were in when he took over, being 11th back in the Premier League is a magnificent achievement. Yeah, it's maybe not all that exciting, but surely the whole point of this season (as is the case for every promoted club) is to consolidate?

Glad I'm not a football manager!

They were up in arms when he was first appointed, "this job's too big for a rookie", etc.

And us Southampton fans took the news of Stuart Gray and Steve Wigley managing us so graciously didnt we?

The difference being Hughton got on with the job, gained player loyalty and got results which earned the respect of the Newcastle fans. I dare say had Wigley or Gray done the same we would have got behind them as well.
