Long may it continue...

Six points in the bag for me today, went to Fratton. Bloody marvellous. To be clear, Portsmouth have now lost three successive League Two matches at home to Newport County without scoring a goal. Alan Biley was the last skate to score against Newport County at Fratton.

Well that didn't take long since the last one......all together now.............

They will always be scummers to me. I'm 47 now and always remember my Pompey cousin hating it when I called him scummer. Skate as we all know was made up by our big fan with minimal intellect

Pompey fans started 'skatebashing' back in the 1970s. It was their nickname for the RN personnel they hated and used to attack. According to the Oxford Dictionary, Scummer is a fifteenth century name for pirates or buccaneers, so it has probably been in use in the port cities for centuries. Now that views towards the armed services have become more positive, their football fans now consider it a badge of honour to be called skates. They hate being called Worzels though.

MANY MANY MANY thousands of Saints fans, called them scummers,  well before you were swimming around in your old mans ball sack.

Skates is a relativity new saying (Depending on your age). A lot happened before you were born.

We still use the term Pompey  Scum in our song “When I was Just a little boy I asked my Mother........” To me they will always be scum. Skates equates with Fish F.....s!

You invented nothing           Back in the day we used to call them  Scummers as a reply to them  callng it to us      But it was them wh o invented  it ........Skates was started [correct me if im wrong] by  ugly inside poll ithink  ....as it would offend them..........As for my age fellow scummer i was probably born well before you were a bit of spit on your Dads dick !    Been to many games against the SKATE scum and have a signed picture of Super  Steve Moran scoring the winner in1984 !  The greatest day of my football life.....And so my dear friend up the Saints and down with the blue few.

Certainly Pompey scum and scummers up until the mid to late-eighties. The hard of thinking to the east invented their claim and a social history thereafter. 

I like how we have reclaimed ‘scummers’. It hurts them. 

I’ve always preferred calling them scabs over anything else.
