Proud and Prejudice

It was a perfect illustration of how UAF march against the EDL, yet don't bat an eye lid when you have Islamist extremists demanding Sharia law.

Can you imagine if a group of white English people called for the outlawing of homosexual relationships. UAF would turn up by the bus load to protest, but because it's Muslims calling for it they are nowhere to be seen. In fact they march alongside those who support sharia.

As Churchill once said "the fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists"

To be honest, I didn't know loads about the EDL beforehand, but had some sympathy with their "cause". After watching it last night though, they did themselves no favours whatsoever. 90% of them are just f*cking stupid and up for a ruck, not helped by that Tommy Robinson quite obviously just being a racist. They will never be taken seriously, if I heard right, and they are against sharia law and muslim extremists, why did I hear more than once him refer to all muslims? Rather than just the extremists, he's on camera for f*cksake, beyond stupid.

Saying that, the extremists are scum and no one can argue that. If they are so obsessed with sharia law, why not live in a country which has it? I dont think the program did any favours to either, and just stirred it up more on both sides.

At the start the bloke running the EDL actually did talk abit of sense, or at least came across that way, by the end of it he made himself look a total cock. particularly dressing as a rabi then "slipping the old bill" it was like something out of the football factory. Seemed to be treating it all as a bit of laugh.

The Mulsim bloke wasn't any better, presumably everyone here was outraged by his comments to ban homosexuality and make everyone convert to Islam.

The only one that talked any amount of sense or came had any credilbity was the Iman.

Dune makes a good point, why are the UAF so active against the EDL but dont bat an eyelid when the Islamic extremists are doing their thing.

They have a similar, almost identical (with dune's UAF stuff and all) thread going on over at the UI.

Quite apart from anything else, I fail to see how the EDL plan to solve Islamist extremism. Are we to believe that droves of mostly white individuals turning up in town centres is going to have any effect whatsoever?

i was watching EMPIRE on BBC1 with Jeremy Paxman, an excellent bit of television that should be showed in every school in Britain , educational and fascinating, i am proud of the legacy that the British left in so many places. Lawrence of Arabia was game as f*ck

i don't thnk they can solve it. but there are parts of the country like Luton / tower hamlets, where Islamic extremists consider as their areas where they are particularly active in what they do, so by turning up there it is a way of drawing attention to it.

But they also want to create aggravation and divisions. They "protested" outside the mosque in Portsmouth which has no links whatsoever to muslim extremism.

I watched this too. We should all be very proud of our colonial history.

I think they know this too, which begs the question - what are they actually doing?

There is enough attention on Islamic extremism. It has been more or less constant on the news since 9/11. The EDL aren't adding anything to our understanding, and I suspect that they are simply a bunch of racists who've chosen an ostensibly unassailable cause to hide behind. It all works beautifully until you actually hear them speak.

isn't that fair game in protesting these days...aggravation..?

just look at any student/stop the war demo

What is your experience of student/stop the war demos?

I've been on plenty, and have only ever seen trouble when the demo was reported on the news in the evening. (the cameras love the scuffles mate - people peacefully walking through London just ain't great for viewing figures ).

mmm completely spurious to the point I was making. funny how you often seem to play devil's advocate when something critical is said of the EDL.

im not...they are all equally moronic..I can't stand the UAF and the people that support their views...and many do on here, which is utterly DISGUSTING...I also can't stand the EDL and think they are nobs of the highest order.

could easily live without both...there, I am one of the few here that generally can't stand them both and not hypocritical in saying so

some of the wide spread disorder shown in london was disgusting..

I remember being given a police escort when working in london on may 1st 2001. I had to be escorted from Charing Cross tube station to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (where I was working) and some of the behaviour was disgusting...

as we come up the steps by Trafalgar square (from the tube station)...8 blokes..EIGHT..were squatting down on the steps having a dump......I kid you not

free speech and all that is great...but not when it is used irresponsibly like we see in many cases

The UAF exists purely to fight against the EDL. Its not interested in right or wrong, legal or illegal. It turns up to cause trouble wherever the EDL or BNP are known to be planning a gathering, simply to cause it to end in a total f**king chaos knowing precisely that the heavily left-wing biased media will blame the trouble on the EDL and therefore cause a PR disaster for them.

The UAF is as bullying, prejudiced, bigoted and anti-democratic as the EDL or BNP, perhaps even more so.

The BNP and EDL talk often ridiculous embarassing b*ll*cks, but I think the tactic that causes them to look the most stupid is to allow them to express their opinions openly without rancour. While the violence goes on, they can always call on the sympathy of an element of society since they are being prevented from expressing their opinions.

Mate, I can deal with your off-the-cuff remarks, but let's not forget that it was dune who brought the UAF thing up. It was called out as a straw man argument on the UI, and mentioned here only because he's copying and pasting his standard defence of the EDL ( essentially pointing the finger elsewhere ) on this board too. Guess what? Still a straw man argument here.

Many of here support the views of UAF? Who exactly?

I agree with your general point though. In principle, I agree with standing up against extremism but the problem the EDL have is that their core support are actually just out and out racist and don't don't fully understand the principles behind what they are supposed to be speaking out against. Too many morons use it as an excuse to get ****ed up and try and crack a skull open.

I wonder what our SNSRJ's think of the UAF??

They are all as bad as each other. Extremism in all forms is generally wrong, and also misguided, not to mention morally dubious and that is putting it kindly. The problem about extremism is that it tries to place everything within one narrow minded mantra, and life just isn't that simple.

What do you think of the UAF Andy?

I would say the UAF are equally racist...they are, LIKE the EDL a disgusting group...and the TSW member who is part of the UAF and who is a teacher....well, I find that amazing that teachers are allowed to be part of extremist groups...if I ever have kids and I find out my teacher is a member of the UAF/EDL or anything like that, I will pull them from that class immditalely

Really?

UAF - founded 2003

EDL - founded 2009

How pathetic. You know fully bloody well that the UAF is the modern-day Anti-Nazi League and they fought against the NF back in the 70s. They filled in the time in-between causing trouble at BNP rallyes.

Must be a real bummer for them trying to potentially cover two events at a time, BNP and EDL, mob-handed.
