Looking for a top restaurant.

I've got to spend £50 as a gift for me and the lady at a restaurant in Hampshire, I would prefer one that has a great vegan menu if anyone knows of a good place?

I'm not one for spending money on a good bottle of plonk so it's going to have to be quality expensive food.

Any help guys?

Quite. You're looking for least double for a 'top' restaurant. And forget about wine as well as a decent one will cost you north of £25 sheets. This place is alright if you want to spend a bit more though.

Does 50 quid for two really qualify as "expensive"? You'd spend that in a cheap and cheerful place for 3 courses plus beers/soft drinks, surely?

Also, vegan restaurants are pretty specialised, I'd think that would add a fair bit to the budget.

Dont know about Hampshire - but if you fancy a day trip to Brighton 'Terre a Terre' is exceptional, amongst the best veggie and vegan food in the country and not all that expensive either.

The only restaurants I know of that cater for Vegan's in Southampton are Nemaste Kerala and Indian Melody, both Indians. There are other places but they're mainly cafes (like Art House).

Bengal Sage and Bangkok Brasserie in Winchester (part of the same group) also cater for Vegan I believe (certainly have a good range of vegetarian food), and are excellent.

Nothing that I would say was really 'top' quality though.

Brasserie Blanc in Winch is decent too. Again going to cost more than 50 sheets.

Cheers for the replies so far, I can't remember the last time I went out to a place and spent over £50. I must give these Mcdonalds a miss once in a while.

Ive tried those Indian places you mentioned Minty and they are alright.....

To be honest the last quality food place I went to was the Rhinefield house (I never paid) and that was a big wooden plate with a few chips, one vegetable and a mean fat steak, the lady could only have what a rabbit would eat as they never had any vegan....shocking.

I don't understand why anyone would want to be a veggie personally, but hey ho! It's a nice little place to eat, peaceful, in the New Forest and they do a veggie menu with "vegan" (which is even more odd - sorry Pilchards!) options - so it fulfils the criteria!

Go see Liz at the Mill, if you call up prior and say what your needs are they will do something..

this place is ****! They have stuff on the menu description that isnt even on the plate. You would be better off going to Iceland and buying the food yourself.

What kind of sheets? Do they accept plain cotton 2nd hand?

Ennios? Excellent, again more than 50 quid though. If you join delicious dining online though you can get a loyalty card which gives you discount there and a few other places in Hampshire.

Got to laugh as we went to the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu (the posh part)

We sat down and got the menu which said 3 course meal £85 EACH.

I only had £90 on me so we asked if we could have a 2 course instead. They came back with £65 each...

We had to get up and leave and walk to the other part which was way cheaper.

I can't believe people pay those prices on top of a bottle of wine £560.

Its nuts.

I would rather go out for a meal every other month somewhere exciting and pay £35-50 each than get cheap average soggy food once a week. (I can cook that myself )

You can just tell Pilchards' usual idea of a meal out is a Harvester or The Haywain's £3.50 roast.
