Still grinning like an idiot. Have been buzzing all day.

Yep ... me too!!

Help by loads of re runs of the goal and his interviews = Top Notch Grin Viagra. :toppa:

it just won't go away!!

I think he'll get a great reception from both sets of fans on saturday, and at most away games in fact.

You can just see his pride and emotion at playing for and scoring for England (and Southampton). :adore::adore::adore:

Sat in the stands last night I was close to tears when SRL made his debut...when he scored I went proper mental! The people around me were in no doubt I was a Saints fan (it helped that I was wearing the new away shirt). But the moment I lost all composure was hearing the English side of the stadium singing Ricky's name...to think that 4 years ago he was playing his first couple of games for Saints in League One and now he is hero not only to Saints fans but English football fans in general.

Hart was not poor. He made some mistakes, he was only poor in relation to the over the top hype, which isn't his fault. He was still a good keeper playing for a top club at a very high level. To get on the back of a young keeper of that potential when there is no-one else near his ability seems crazy.

Cahill and Jagielka both play for big clubs and do well. Last night wasn't anything to do with a step up to international level, it was just sloppy. It was against Kenny Miller ffs, he's Championship level at best and they're top premier league defenders. With time together they'll both be fine. Although personally I think Dawson would be better paired with one of them, probably Jagielka. Jagielka and Lescott also had a great partnership once before, but they still need help from midfield more.

I can't stand Rooney personally and feel sometimes you have to drop a decent enough player for the benefit of the team. I haven't seen him play well for England in years, and last summer wasn't his only bad tournament. Regardless, we need a manager brave enough to drop him if he's not 100% fit, which we haven't had before.

As for Gerrard, he is ALWAYS some England fans MOTM. He runs a lot and tries, that's why. He also loses possession and leaves huge gaps, always has done. I rated him very highly as an attacking midfielder off the striker, in a free role. His sprinting around the pitch then didn't leave huge gaps and leave us (or Liverpool) overrun. But he struggles to play that game now and isn't picked in that position. That leaves him as a very average CM, which is a shame to see. Lampard has a lot more discipline in that role, despite both having been infinitely better in front of 2 CMs throughout their career. Either at CM was a bad idea so to think we tried both there for 10 years is bewildering. It's a bit like Saints leaving Cork and Morgan on the bench and trying Lallana and Ramirez in central midfield each week in a 442. We'd get stuffed.

Thanks for this Adrian, confirms what I have thought for a while
