Fraser Forster

Correct me if I am wrong but he's still our recored premier league clean sheet holder ? Was brilliant until he strayed from his rehab exercises and stiffened up

He never was. Even in the days when clean sheets were kept it was blindingly obvious that he was dodgy at best, behind a brilliant defence and midfield. he had one or two outstanding games, but always looked clumsy, slow and lacking in authority. Then our "goalkeeping coach" got hold of him and he went from bad to worse.

He has never been and never will be brilliant. A few good games but ultimately a complete liability. Hope he never plays for us again.

Giving him a new contract is one of the worst decisions the Saints hierarchy have made in the last two years.

Didn't need one. Didn't deserve one.

No chance a club will maych his wages, let alone pay a fee so we will have to let him out on a subsidised loan for a bit, like with Ramirez and Osvaldo.

2 different people have told me rumour is to Chelsea 10m to up their English quota no idea how true

They could just not loan out their very good English keeper Jamal Blackman.

All they have got to do now is tout JWP to anyone and we finally get rid of him and Davis. Fingers crossed.

Arnold, last night, was a successful at free kicks and corners as JWP has been for the last 4 years. As for Loftus-Cheek, Forster out of goal, lumbering oaf.

It would be really nice if some of our moronic posters would encourage some of our younger players

Loftus cheek is top class. Alexander Arnold although decent in some areas was poor from set pieces last night and although JWP is not always consistent from set pieces has more quality than that in delivery

Some of the comments on here.

Forster was/is a very good keeper who's had a spell and lost his confidence. He was not 'dodgy' or a 'complete liability' and such comments are just stupid.

Totally disagree. He is an awful goalkeeper at Premiership level. Still it's all about opinions eh?

The price we pay for some interesting discussions on here are the players assessments that many of us will disagree with, Forster being a case in point. If Fraser had always been an incompetent keeper, he wouldn't have been part of the England squad for 3 years, or won 6 caps. If Joe Hart hadn't been the preferred England No.1 at the time, Fraser would have had more caps. Because he declined from his peak, earlier than expected doesn't mean he was never any good, which some people now claim. Likewise with James Ward-Prowse, a player who made the Saints' first team at the age of 16 and went on the be a regular in the England youth teams. Since then he's made 200 appearances Saints at the highest level and is still only 23. For someone to call him an average player says far more about the person making the remark than it does about JWP.

It really would be nice to have less sniping and complaining about players who have achieved a lot for this club in recent years, who then had to suffer the Pellegrino period.

Don't come on here speaking sense. We need scapegoats.

If they were not poor players AND over-hyped to the nth degree I would.

Ploddy as I call him has kept out Sims and Hesketh for far too long. " 2 players who will be far better than Ploddy ever was/is.

  • 2 weeks later...

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster is no longer a starter at St. Mary's and some Celtic fans are keen to see him return.

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/07/11/apparently-loan-listed-some-celtic-fans-want-fraser-forster-re-s/

Forster is no longer the player he once was, but he hasn't become a bad goalkeeper overnight either. He lost his place in the Southampton team more as a result of McCarthy taking his chance and playing well, rather than the Englishman being a total calamity.

He remains a decent shot stopper who is physically imposing and commanding in the air, and Celtic, even though they are not currently linked with him, could do worse than to sign him up on loan or on the cheap, with Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries both ageing.

I guess the author hasn't seen any saints games the last two seasons.

Get it done Les...

I'm sorry but I'm just not having that, for a man of his size he is about as imposing as the 3 week old kitten the my bloody wife has just bought into the house. As for commanding in the air, you're joking, he's never in the air, his feet are permanently planted, by virtue of which makes him a decent shot stopper if the ball coincidentally hits him.

Forster was playing well until the injury. Was never the same again. There are problems with his technique - he does not get down to shots well and teams have worked him out. And it is obvious that his confidence is shot and that he is struggling.

Clearly on the way out. Wish him well and hope that he can rebuild his career elsewhere. Joe Hart is going through the same experience.

Teams have worked him out. Shoot the ball at the goal. It will go in.

While Forster is so far out of the plans of Mark Hughes at Southampton he is being hawked around to anyone willing to take him on loan.

But with wages of £80,000-a-week there is a shortage of interest, with Saints now having to offer to subsidise the majority of his pay just to get him off the books.

That rag is making out there is only 2 keepers, Pope and Pickford. Uh hallllo... We got two potentials ourself!

Where is Blackman in their goalkeeper pecking order?

Was on loan at Sheffield United last season. At 24, he's too old for the junior teams and Chelsea have already moved out one goalkeeper, Eduardo on loan. He was one of 4 named in the first team squad last season. Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero are still there, the other goalkeeper in the squad last year was Marcin Bulka, he does fit the age range for the u23's however.

Personally I'd be surprised whoever moves in for Fraser, but this was one of the rumours, so let's see what happens.

Sky Sports reporting that Jamal Blackman has joined Leeds on loan from Chelsea for the season. So let's see if there are anything in the rumours of Fraser to Chelsea....

The two aren't overly connected, as Blackman was not taking up a spot in Chelsea's first team squad last season.

Strange you say that as I was told today that Saints want him gone but just can't find anyone who wants him, even on subsidised wages (loan) or a reduced fee (sale).

Which would be utterly retarded - you'd think we would have had a deal all but completed when we stuck another keeper on our books - it's just terrible business sense - a club like ours cannot afford to pay 3 first choice keepers...

He's definitely going, but not even sure he knows where yet. Bit of a mess really.

The mess was that the board went on a mass contract extension programme, along with much increased wages. TBH that's fairly pointless as the ones that we didn't want to go, still went even with their long contracts, leaving behind those that we might not want. It is silly that we have currently got 3 first choice keepers.
