What strange times we live in when Wilders-adoring extreme-right Dutchmen, dodgy deckchairs-for-the-elderly salesmen and Corbynista virtue-signalling ****wits all ally in their opting for Trump as the better candidate.

I think Trump is a disgusting person and personality but I think that some of the things that Hilary has done and her track record make her potentially more dangerous in the White House. Plus the type of people who support her are the odious social justice warrior types, the rabid feminists and the gender benders with 58 different pronouns who are the type of people I despise so if I were American I couldn't bring myself to be on the same side as them. I'd probably abstain or vote for a third party candidate.

I am heading out to vote shortly. I hate the two choices I have. I have chosen to vote for the, what I consider, the least bad. Trump is odious and unfit to govern. He has such a thin skin how would he react if a world leader said something negative about him? In many ways, his background is as bad as Hillary's with lies, etc. Hillary is a career politician who has taken advantage of her position in ways many have before. She has so much baggage that in any other election, she wouldn't stand a chance.

Voting for a third party candidate would be great if everyone who felt the same about Trump and Clinton voted for them. Because we all feel it would be a wasted vote, we won't go the 3rd party route.

I fully understand why an America hungry for change is unimpressed by a Clinton candidacy, but she is good and her election should be a proud moment in America's history. I don't suppose anybody is even surprised any more. There has been a school shooting in the states every week since 2013, according to the bbc.

The President and the Vice-President have said their thoughts and prayers are with the victims so I don't really know what else they could possibly do.

I just read there have been 18 school shooting in the US this year I mean WTF it beggars belief. What does it take for the US to think that maybe the gun laws are fubar...

Still waiting for a 'good guy with a concealed gun' to actually stop one of these shootings for once.

I mean, that is the entire basis of the NRA's argument against gun laws isn't it?

Nothing at all they can do. (If they want the continued support of the NRA and it's supporters.) A really, really ****ed up society.

I was in Florida this year and went to a gun range. We walked in and said I wanted to rent a gun. They asked for ID and I said I'd left in the car and offered to go get it. They said not to worry. They asked me if I had shot before, I said "yes" and 30 seconds later I was in a booth with a .45 pistol and 100 bullets, unsupervised.

Horrible news again and even more horrific that nothing will be done to stop this.

Its almost exclusively in two cities, London and Manchester. A sub group of kids think it is cool to carry knives. That doesnt make it better of course, but its not a genersalised thing

I work part time in a local store that has a gun department. On two occasions I've stood in for the regular gun staff when there has been a shortage of them. I have no gun permit and no background check. The only training I had was how to load the hand guns and the assault rifles before I was left there alone. It's just totally crazy.

Already in 2018 people were killed in Birmingham and Oxford and according to the journalist all the big cities have to deal with this problem.

Knives are harder to police than guns as they are an every day tool found in every kitchen in the Uk. We do have laws intended to stop the sale of knives to children and laws making it illegal to carry knives in public places but banning all forms of bladed tools would be rather problematic.

The same could be said about the current trend for acid attacks the UK government acted to make it harder for children to buy but again its hard to tell people they can't buy household cleaning products.

I imagine (but dont know) it is different for adults. Knives are used for murders because guns are so difficult to obtain. The murder rates for the Netherlands are similar. I'd be surprised if the method of killing is much different between the two countries

That article say the Dutch murder rate is at a 20 year low so currently it is lower the the UK. But the UK is safe. Murder rates are very comparable with Germany and Denmark and lower than France or Belgium.

The was an interesting piece on the BBC about this woman who grew up in survivalist home in Idaho. Her parents are convinced the government is out to destroy them and that even people like schools and doctors were government agents to be avoided. All were gun nuts. She has a book out on Feb 22 that I want to read.

Of course the kids don't deserve it, that's obvious. But the Yanks are getting exactly what they vote for, they choose to sell guns to idiots, they know the consequences. They are free to change their laws if they care enough.
