Harrison Reed - Official: Signs for Fulham

If only more players made playing regularly their first priority, when considering transfers and their career.

Reed won't get regular games with us though, so should move on. If we decide Hojbjerg, Romeu and Lemina aren't enough in CM, we'll buy somebody before considering Reed.

Do you get to see much of the Championship in Kenya?

What about League 1 and 2 matches?

Where would you rate Kenyan league football compared to them?

Yes, football is shown all over the world.

Kenyan League football isn't great but enjoyable to watch.

Thanks. Love and Light.

It's good that you get to see lots of English lower league football in Kenya.

They only show Premier League matches here in Belarus. I can sometimes see the occasional Championship match on Russian channels. They showed the Championship play-off semi-finals, but not league 1 or 2.

Which TV channel(s) show the lower league matches in Kenya? How many matches do they show per week?

Football is only shown on Belarus 5 - the 5th national channel here. And only one premier league match per week. But we are lucky that we also get Russian TV Channels.

Are there big crowds at Kenyan matches? Is it a good atmosphere at the matches? Is there ever any crowd trouble there?

It's good to chat to people from other countries and hear about their experiences.

Hello,

Lower league matches i catch somewhat naughtily, but I'm often in Uk so can catch them then.

However I can get Setanta Asia, which is now Fox Sports or Zuku Sports which will show Football League matches, they generally mirror what is shown on Sky Sports. SuperSport, which is South African can be picked up here and is affliated to Sky and ESPN, so we often get more choice of live games than they do in the UK. KBC the goverment channel shows some Football, but not much. I wouldn't know the exact amount of games shown, but of course with "streaming" the possibilities are much more.

Oh goodness yes, due to Tribal reasons mainly. Rioting can be frequent, 2017 their was a bad riot in a national game. SportPesa recently stopped sponsoring 2 sides due to "hooligans", it has steadily got better thou.

No worries, im sure some nasty people will mock me for what i've said when i'm just passing on knowledge

Hi, interesting. Can you explain the tribal rioting situation at football matches for me?

Different Teams are in different Tribal areas, use football to be violent towards each other. Not much different to normal football, people from other areas using this reason to fight. "Tribes" are slowly die-ing out due to modernization of Kenya thou, guess they use this to fight. Interestingly alot of new rules were bought in after the Sportpesa incident to kurb hooliganism.

How do they stop Hooliganism in Norway? Is it a problem there? Is Paul Oyuga still at Ålgård FK, he must be nearly 46!

You'll have to enlighten me about the Sportpesa incident.

Does anyone think it's possible Reed will play himself into contention as RB in pre-season? I reckon he's got no chance in midfield, as we have far too many other players ahead of him there, but could he be like McQueen and make the switch? I know he played there quite a lot for Norwich last season, so is that the reason we haven't been linked with signing any right backs yet?

Maybe though if we play 3 at the back, the wing back position assumes much more importance and where we need decent backup (relative to other positions). That said Reed looked better than Shane Long at RWB

Reed actually played that RWB role for a decent % of his time at Norwich, that's where their fans rated him more. I wouldn't be against keepimg him around the place as backup to Cedric and rather than pursuing a new right back, put that money into another winger/quick forward type player.

If we play with wing backs they are so important in an attacking sense.

If Cedric missed a few months with injury, is Reed really good enough, at PL level?

But then you've got the problem of trying to persuade someone to come and join us who IS good enough for the Premier League but is also prepared to sit on the bench all season in the event that Cedric doesn't get injured.

I'm down with giving Reed the chance, and I suspect the club are too (with the Stephens/Bedarek options too). Otherwise it would have been much cheaper to extend Pied rather than buy a new backup.

Alternatively you get someone better than Cedric and make him the back up.

Agree with this although of course Jack Stephens could be the competition for Cedric? Has played there for Saints before on a limited basis e.g. Everton away.

I think JWP would make a good wing back, ok he's not rapid, but he has the work rate and stamina, plus crossing is one of his best attributes. Also his smaller stature and lack of strength is less of an issue, and defensively wing backs have less to do as they have a covering centre-back behind them.

Overall I agree, however I worry about being vulnerable on the counter due to his lack of pace.

That is what a back 3 is there for in a wing-back system, if one wing back is caught out up pitch in theory you should still have 3 centre-backs in place to cover, if not the other wing back as well meaning they can basically drop into a back 4.

JWP played there a couple of years ago in a cup game against Ipswich at home and he was absolutely gash.

That was at RB though, not RWB.

It is curious to note that in Ward-Prowse, Reed, Lemina and Hojbjerg we have several players who have played at RB or RWB before, not sure we need to be signing a specialist RWB simply to act as backup, even more so when we have Valery coming through.

I think we need to someone to push Cedric to be honest. Both Cedric and Bertrand played like players who knew they where the first names on the team sheet. Even when they where in poor form last season they knew there was no, realistically, better options behind them. Instead on signing a back up we should be signing someone as good as or better than Cedric competition for places will then hopefully lead to better performances.

That's not how it works though, is it? Some one as good as, or better than them, would only sign with the promise of playing regularly, which means Cedric or Bertie are off. In practice you grow their replacements, or purchase a good young un, or a Pied (Martina) go pro/adequate cover type.

The Championship can produce players of the quality of Maddison so your comment is somewhat naive.

Neil Maddison was decent for us in his day, but to be fair I think the standards have moved on now and I don’t think he’d be a Premier League player in today’s modern game.

With Romeu having a mare again this season and Lemons only giving a cr@p when he feels like it, I'd rather Harrison stayed and played against Leicester. It would mean we only have to play one of the former, Reed is just the type of 'fly in the ear' player you need against an influential opposition midfielder & he spent the whole of last season in the same team as Maddison so should know his game inside out. Surely he's done enough in his previous appearances where he didn't look out of place replacing Morgan and Wanyama when called upon & not looking out of place there!

What I don't understand is why players like Gallagher and Reed were deemed good enough under previous managers but are now seemingly not good enough when the quality of the team is much worse.

In fairness it was a lot easier to involve a youngster in/around players we had 3-4 years ago. They complimented a strong and confident team.

Just now we are struggling and introducing players just because they came through the youth system is not going to help them or us.

That doesn't make any sense. If they wrre good enough then, they are most definitely good enough now being older and having a much weaker squad. If we are just going to loan out the likes of Reed then we may as well sell him.

Wasn't Reed "good enough" in one game (Everton) when we had nobody else rather than ever being a regular?

Re Gallagher, similar story. He played under Poch when Lambert was injured and we had nobody else. He never set the world alight playing for us and has had loan spells of varying degrees of success from dreadful (Mk Dons), average (Birmingham), quite good (Blackburn).

Nowhere near as good as players like Vydra or Afobe who we would see as beneath us.

He was good enough to make 9 league appearances in 2014 and look at the quality we had back then yet now he can't even make the squad?

He wasn't good enough for a place in Norwich midfield for the majority of last season so do you really believe he'll improve our 1st team? Or that he deserves a place on the bench ahead of Romeu, Lemina, Hoj, JWP, Armstrong, Davis?

Didn't he start something like 36 games for Norwich last year. That seems a majority.
