Badly need another Striker

Not much more to add from the title. We have been a striker light all season.

Long now injured and he has hardly set the world alight. We are too reliant on Pelle.

Given how well placed we are it would be madness not to at least loan someone in IMO.

Absolute no brainer.

Even Koeman said he wants another striker.

Guess he is a knee jerker

When he was asked about Guidetti on Thursday, he said the didn't want an attacker. Either he changed his mind or the board said no.

Of course with Long now injured, club may have no choice if Long's injury is bad. Rodriguez isn't going to be back anytime soon it doesn't seem and who the hell knows what is going on with Gallagher.

thought he said he wasnt planning to buy anyone? This may change after today, but i dont remember him saying otherwise.

He was saying otherwise until the Palace press conference. Then he seems to have changed his mind. Hope he changes his mind again, because its so obvious we needed a striker even before Long's injury today.

He said a week or so ago that he wanted another striker

When it comes to the topic of potential player acquisitions, I take what Koeman says at a press conference with a huge grain of salt. And rightfully so.

It would be like showing your cards while playing poker.

the reason its come up now is because long went off injured, he could be out for 2 days or a year who knows, pelle is a good player but has scored like 1 in 15 for us, mane and mayuka are gone but that doesnt matter that much because mayuka is ****. jay rod and gallagher long term injuries. ut would be fine if like last season are 2 wide attackers (lallana and j rod) were banging in 10-15 goals a piece but tadic has scored 2 is it? need a new striker. a club in our position shouldnt potentially throw it away because they dont wanna spend an extra bit of money that we would more than make back if we finished in top four. imagine if pelle was injured not on top of long.

Good luck with that, loads of good strikers out here in January I'm sure. I also look forward to Chelsea and man city buying whole new teams now.

Don't know why it's come up today. Scoring 2 at home to palace should be enough. They're probably just so focused on the league it's hard to produce the same in the cup. That's 3 cup game and 3 performances some way below league levels.

It has been mentioned by many (including the manager) for a little while

Shurlock has it bang on IMO. We could play 5 strikers up front but if we don't give them a chance to score we have problems. Our defence, today aside, has been outstanding and that is why we are as high in the League as we are.

Incredible how many chances we are converting as we are creating so little. That is the biggest concern right now: creatively we are completely flat and Tadic seems to have gone right off the boil.

3 points against Swansea would be great - but anyone who thinks bringing in a new striker will change anything is dreaming.

We now only have 1 out of form striker and a youth player who's played 20 minutes of first team football.

Yes, we've done well recently in terms of chances created/goals scored but this won't continue. People need to take their head out of the sand. Major problem IMO.

Of course bringing in a new striker would make a difference

We were miles better when Shane long was on. And he hardly scores

You are right about our creativity, but so wrong in thinking that a new striker would not change anything.

Perhaps the reason that Koeman decided we don't want another striker is due to good news about JRod and when he will come back?

He said on Thursday that JR isn't even close to rejoining the group.

We have one fit and quality frontline striker. Liverpool have 4, West Ham 3 plus Cole, Spurs 3. Arsenal 2 plus Sanchez.

Sooner or later it will hurt us.

Bamford? Still young, proven in the level below - another decent player that Chelsea want to waste ... let's face it, we're going to struggle to find a proven goal scorer from top flight football that we could afford and no, Lambert on loan isn't the answer.

He would definitely be worth considering, the right age and seems to improve as he's worked up the leagues via various loans.

I love all this "go and get a striker" bollloxs. Who, exactly, are we going to get who is going to help us get this magical 4th spot, the magical land of unicorns and lollipops?

Someone to cover Long being out for 5 weeks. Plenty of players across the world would surely be keen to play for a team chasing top 4 in the Premier League? Doesn't have to be a world beater just a solid striker who is better than Seagar and Mayuka.

Can't be that hard to identify one given the scouting setup (that Reed was rightly praising only this morning)?

Sounds easy but buying in haste especially forwards can be bad news

so you say to them come and play for us but when Mane and Jrod are back you may be number 4 in the pecking order, that could be the issue?

We do desperately need a striker - with Gallagher and Rodriguez out as long term injuries, Mayuka and Mane in Africa and now Long probably out injured for more than a couple of weeks we only have Pelle in the first team squad.

Of those Mayuka is just not good enough - and the same is probably true of Long if we are honest. And Pelle despite being good enough is very one dimensional in the way he plays . So we needed another striker anyway.

Mane is also more of a left winger anyway - which brings me to another problem - in Tadic, Elia and Mane we have 3 left wingers - 4 if you add Isgrove - but no right wingers. We need one of those as well - and a right back to provide some cover for Clyne.

I think the problem is until we get Mayuka and Osvaldo and Ramirez entirely off the wage bill and/or sell Rodriguez we can't afford to bring another one in.

Check the Black Box. Do you really think that there is no-one lined up as a possible option? What would you do if Graz was injured as well? Its what our club philosophy is based on, why we were able to get players in last summer. Of course if the Black Box says "no" then maybe we are ****ged, because we will certainly be very lucky to achieve our goals unless we do something now that we have only one recognised senior striker fit to play.

You give someone from outside the PL the chance to play for a good team til May in the shop window of the PL.

Sure there would be enough takers.

Yes we should buy expensive new players every single time we don't win.

I think the idea would be to buy underpriced new players whom our brilliant scouting department has been following for a significant period of time....every single time we don't win.

Koeman suggested Long's injury could force #SaintsFC into transfer market. "We've one week & we'll think about it. We know our situation"

Simon Peach @SimonPeach · 2h 2 hours ago

Koeman: "We know about when injured players come back but when you look to the bench there is Shane & the rest under-21s. That's difficult"

Club had better make a decision quickly.

Agree totally Charlie, but let's hope " the brains " at SMS see it the same way.

Do we need more strikers? only Pelle seems to play as an actual Centre forward. Tadic and Elia played out wide of him today and neither of them are strikers Long is a striker but normally plays in the same position as Tadic or Elia. Mane is the same, I think he is classed as winger but plays the same position as the other three. We Should have a back up CF for Pelle because he is crucial to the way we play and no one else really plays the same way as him but everyone else plays out wide and we are pretty well set there when Mane comes back even if Long is injured.

I think the situation changed quite markedly today !

Pelle is a red card or an injury away from leaving us strikerless !

Not going to be easy but maybe Ron can magic someone up from the Dutch league (or anywhere for that matter) !

.....and preferably someone who is built like a brick outhouse, and can handle himself. Pellé is already being triple-marked in many games.

On the other hand....if we'd defended properly today we'd have won 2-0
