All things Labour Party

Corbyn is a real threat to the tories and they know it.

He really, really isn't.

If he ever makes it to a general election he and his party will get annihilated.

A Corbyn general election will basically be six weeks of Paul Nuttal working the streets of Grimsby, Hull and Sunderland reminding people that Jeremy is an unpatriotic best mate of the IRA who wants to give the Falklands back. 50% of the UKIP campaign will be Corbyn is a loony.

Theresa May and the Tories will barely have to lift a finger - they'll walk it in their heartland and all English marginals without breaking sweat. It will just be a question of how many seats Labour lose to Plaid in Wales, UKIP in northern/midland urban areas and a potentially more competent Lib Dems back in their little enclaves.

Absolute shambles of a party. There is no way in the world that Corbyn will ever get my vote.

This. Voted Labour in every election in my 20 year life but I will never ever vote for a Corbyn Labour party in an general election.

Blimey, we agree on something at last!

I've always said pin a red rosette on a donkey and I'll still vote Labour. Corbyn and his Trotsky mates though, are a step too far.

They made Corbyn leave the room this evening - after his initial refusal - so they could hold a secret ballot on whether he's allowed to be in the leadership contest.

Result?

Corbyn on the ballot - 18

Corbyn not on the ballot - 14

It can't have been all that secret.

Christ , Angela Eagle hopeless on Newsnight , they're better of with Eddie The , rather than Angela . Members of her CLP are holding a vote of confidence in her soon . She was asked " will you quit if you lose it " . Can't answer the question . As the leftie headbanger interviewed said " these MPs believe in votes of confidence and trying to force the loser of that vote out. Therefore they should all face confidence votes from their own CLP's and stand down if they lose ". Sounds like the momentum is towards deselection on a vast scale .

I dont think Corbyn is electable in a GE what do others think

I think he must be electable, if people don't think he is electable (the PLP) why are they trying so hard to keep him off the ballot? Kind of ironic really.

Not really. The Labour party membership are an utterly irrelevant portion of the electorate, and rapidly becoming less and less reflective of the British population. Sure he can win again but so what? He can't lead and he has zero appeal to the 4m swing voters he needs to gain to win a general election.

It's like winning the Dad's race at school sports day and then thinking that means you can beat Usain Bolt.

I think Labour are going to get an even bigger pasting at the next GE. UKiP will go all out for their votes up north and will take a few seats (if they are still going)

Corbyn, the dreadful Eagle woman and come bloke called Owen Smith (who?)..... :|

but hey ho, the liberal elites in Islington and the Union bosses are happy.

I think there's a pretty strong possibility that when Corbyn wins again, there will be a new breakaway Party with most of the current Labour MPs, who will be largely deselected by the faithful before the next General Election anyway, to hoover up the centre left vote. Now is the right time.

Look at Scotland. The SNP didn't sweep the board because all the Bravehearts want independence. It was simply because the SNP is a credible centre left social democratic alternative.

Me too Mr Garrett but I am still anti Tory most of Tory administrations have been cruel to large sections of the electorate in the last 40 years

Lets hope Mrs May can rebuild the country after the shambles of Cameron and Osborne with their austerity agenda which in Swindon has led to the closure of 11 of the 14 public libraries.

Agree about the popularity of the SNP. The only way I can see a Labour breakaway working is if most of the 'famous' Labour MPs join it so the breakaway is seen by the public as the true Labour party and Corbyn's party is seen as a rump left wing faction. Even then if the the two parties compete head to head in a General Election they would split the vote and let the Conservatives in.

I think its pretty unlikely they will be able to get both a majority of MPs leaving and an electoral pact.

If over 50% of Labour mps defect to a new party then they will be the official opposition. Corbyn will be reduced to 2 questions at pmqs. Ideally enough labour mps would defect, meaning that socialist labour had less mps than the SNP.

The Times podcast from this week claims that whoever keeps the Labour name will guarantee themselves 15% of the vote regardless of whether it's Corbyn's mob or the rest who break away and form a new party . They reckon 15% vote Labour because they always have done and always will , regardless of policy or personality.

Probably not quite as many as those who similarly vote Tory.

The % of the national vote is not an indicator of electoral success in our FPTP system, ask the Lib Dems and UKIP. What matters is whether the vote is concentrated in specific constituencies. If Labour does disintegrate (split) following the 2nd coronation of the their Socialist Messiah the key will be how many of those MP’s who voted against Corbyn will actually follow through and leave the Labour Party, either for another established party or as part of a new left of centre Social Democratic movement. If the latter I believe with strong leadership, professional organisation and campaigning , and time such a party would do well in a GE. The difficulty in distinguishing between the core offerings of Blair’s New Labour and Cameron’s Tory Lite, as evidenced by election results over the past 20 years, is a strong indicator that the British electorate believe in broadly social democracy policies, and the majority will not support extremism on either wing of the political spectrum. Corbyn and his acolytes confuse radical left wing ideology with social democracy, the electorate will not be so confused, the angry, irreverent hordes who have contaminated the Labour Party will only drive its downfall.

Make that 15%-1.

Yet another reason (as if there weren't already a bucketful) for Corbyn to be held in utter contempt.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p041bhvf/player

Listening to this interview it's hard to even fathom that an individual like this could be a public figure at all, let alone a leader of what was once one of Britain's great political parties.

Yep, listened to that. Corbyn... what a complete and utter ****

Corbyn is a real threat to the tories and they know it. The Blairites, sorry the red-blues, couldn't be any more slippery even if they tried.

Corbyn has a chance if he keeps the grass roots momentum marching through

There is no grass roots momentum - there is merely a re-infiltration of the Labour party by a load of Trots and Militant tendency who paid three quid who make a lot of noise, indulge in systematic intimidation (as they did in the 80s) but don't have an intelligent solution to injustice or how to deal with recession. If Corbyn wins again then Labour are screwed.

This tells you all you need to know about this thoroughly unpleasant man. His pathetic claim to want a new kind of politics is an effort to hide his very old and underhand socialist bully boy tactics.

Hmm, disaffected centre left Labour MPs forming an alliance with the Liberals.

Haven't we seen all this before?

Talk about history repeating itself.

Ie the socialists who have infiltrated the labour party haven't learned from the foot era.

If Angela Eagle is the best Labour can come up with to oust Corbyn it may well be the most sensible option

the other leader wannabe has said today he would make a good leader because he has a wife and 3 kids..

sounds familiar somehow

Two and a half million people who voted Labour at the last election would now choose Theresa May over Jeremy Corbyn https://t.co/U8bObByVUU

And something like 21% behind in England (16% in UK) in polls.

All going swimmingly well

Interesting that Sky say that poll "adds to Corbyns woes" when really it doesn't.

He doesn't give two shiny sh ites about winning an election, except the one that means he can run the Labour party. He wants to be Prime Minister less than I do.

Given Scotland is now wiped out for Labour, that kind of poll lead for the Tories would give the execrable Corbyn the historic defeat he's looking for - far bigger than the Thatcher landslide against Foot in 1983.

Polling 29% against a profoundly unpopular Tory party is astounding.

While you can see how desperate the MPs are I don't don't understand how this would really work, or be turned into electoral advantage come polling day.

If it ends up with Corbyn and co relegated to the back benches then while that would be funny, it won't stop him. Plus the slavering idiot mob of hero-worshippers will continue their doe-eyed deification regardless, plus more bricks through windows and online rape threats ago-go.

Plus this proto-Labour new opposition will almost certainly need propping up by the SNP at which point Scotland is truly gone for Labour for a generation. I just can't see enough MPs prepared to really pull the trigger.

In a way Labour are going to lose the next election anyway so the PLP might as well suicide bomb the c#*# on to the back benches for the LOLs. But it's all playing into the hands of the reselection mob.
