Southampton v FC Midtjylland Build up thread.

We clearly do. 4231, 451 or 433 there are many fluid positions these days but there are often 3 forwards. Even when playing wide midfield, they aren't traditional wingers or wide midfielders.

They're attacking midfielders not "forwards", and we really don't. Pelle is always up front on his own except an occasional foray from whichever one of the bank of 3 AMs is up there, but never more than one at a time. We NEVER play 3 up top.

Very strange choice.

Not really Koeman came out and said this team are really strong in the air and that they have a throw in specialist like delap.

So I'm guessing Yoshida is in there to try counter that as Cedric is pretty small and isn't going help much if they put everything in the air.

We play at least three up front I am afraid. In fact usually 8 of our players are too far advanced leaving no defence and no

Link up through midfield because too many players are too far away so we end up

Playing it long or losing possessesion. This has been going on for months now but Koeman continues to do what he always does....

Lets hope they play it in the air a lot then!!!!!

Good line-up, looks stronger defensively and yeah think Yoshida is at RB to help with the aerial threat and set pieces (he was statistically the best player in our team last year at winning aerial duels).

Means we will be sacrificing some width in attack though. Mane and JRod will need to link up well with Pelle up front but think JWP will be the key man. Good chance to show what he is capable of.

this. Will be almost zero width with this line-up. JWP is going to need to step up big time as he is going to be the main distributor of the ball - Looks like most everything will be going through the middle.

To be honest I am a bit worried that Yoshida could be lacking a lot of pace in the duels with the FCM-wingers. Sisto and Royer are both really fast, and will probably rotate to make even more problems for Targett and Yoshida. It could definitely be pure tactical brilliance from Koeman, but I just dont see the big threat in the overblown aerial strength in the Midtjylland team.

Despite of that, I think the starting line looks very interesting.

Well while I like the guy Cedric hasn't been much better against the Prem fullbacks in terms of them getting past him so far. If Wanyama and Romeu are both sitting deep i'm hoping one of them can help cover if needed.

I would have played Cedric in RM instead of JWP then.
