Just ran a search for news articles on the internet and the last thing that came up was an interview in which he said Mutu is a great player, on Aug 23rd.

Nothing from his club and he's still listed there everywhere else, so looks like someone was just on a wind-up.

......hardly a minor American literary figure, surely ...

and isn't the quote ..." reports of my death have been ....greatly exaggerated ?

Whoosh...

I thought it was only Americans who didn't get irony. Twain never said what is often quoted, nor did he say what started this off in post #6.

I never understand what that means. Would you be so kind as to explain/ Genuine question from a septuagenarian struggling with the modern world.

"mea culpa". A flippant apology. Apparently "originated" in USA street basketball in the 1980s (whatever that is). However the minor English literary figure W Shakespeare had previously used the phrase in Sonnet 112 (with apologies to David in Sweden).

Hardly a phrase, more like a couple of words amongst a load of others, indeed he used the couplet 'my bad, my good'. He might equally have said 'my bad tooth'. Anyway, it only took 400 years or so to catch on and there is no need for us to encourage its use.

Is there any definitive news about our old mate Papa?

Absolutely correct. It's a common misconception that Mark Twain said that reports of Papa Waigo's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Well he's not dead I don't think...https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8256625/Saints-hero-Papa-Waigos-agent-admits-tricked-accepting-2009-St-Marys-loan.html

A good little article...

I think it was Mark Twain that said referring to Papa Waigo as a "Southampton hero" is a bit of an exaggeration. He did a decent job for us at the time though.

Did he not have the internet to see Southampton wasn't in London and that Saints weren't in the 2nd tier?
