So we're not getting Ross Barkley then?

We need a proper "assist" getter. Is he that sort?

Don't think he can be classed as an attacking midfielder, he's more of a powerful DM, box to box type.

Which is why these threads are so amusing. For all the rumours and guessing, the actual deals are nearly always a surprise.

He's a bit more box to box -can actually take the ball and drive forward with it from central positions. Hopefully that'll make us a bit less predictable and less reliant on going sideways and throwing crosses into the box.

Don't know much about him, but reading up on him and watching a few youtube clips (as is standard..) he looks bang on what we need alongside Romeu. And probably the sort of player we've needed for at least the last couple of seasons.

According to Wiki we have been trailing him since 2015. Also been managed by Bielsa, so Pellegrino could have sought his advice.

This is a decent write up (note he's not overly physical according to this):

Looks like a decent signing, our starting midfielders are all pretty good technically but none of them have the pace or power to really break through the oppositions midfield. Seeing as we would never pay the going rate for a true number 10 this is probably the next best thing, having a midfielder that gives the opposition something to think about when going forward, even if it isn't for his goal scoring ability

"From Turin to England, Southampton: Mario Lemina's future is all English. In particular, ESPN filters how the negotiation is now closed. Additionally, we add other confirmations regarding the details of the deal: for a 18 million deal plus two bonuses related to attendance. And so the Southampront beats Stoke City at the final sprint. Expecting medical visits this Monday. In a choice made by the player, strongly wanted by Pellegrino.b"

If Lemina is true, and we can get him over the line by midweek, it'll be a big lift for the club and fans. I wouldn't be surprised to see a behind closed doors friendly to ease him in. Definitely seems like the sort of player we'd sign. Good things come to those who wait?

I think most of us said all of last season that OR needed a partner and it appears that he's about to get one.

It looks like a classic Saints signing. Young, talented, lost his way a bit and with a point to prove.

Lemina is a box to box midfielder with a 90% pass accuracy has saints little black box done it again. Just what we need.

Niiiiiiiice. Was not expecting that. As others have said, appears to fit the profile of what we need almost exactly. Amazing how much more balance one signing can bring to a team.

IIRC we were quite strongly linked to him when he was at Marseille.

Definitely a position we needed strengthening. Next a CB please, Les. And a GK if McCarthy continues with his Pahars impersonation.

This is surprising considering we are informed that Ross Wilson is a clueless idiot who wouldn't spot a decent player if one took a dump in his fireplace.

According to this, we were. Supposedly had a 3.5m bid for him rejected per L'Equipe.

So been tracking him for a while by the looks of it.

    What a relief. He's a Koeman/Mitchell signing after all.

    As you were. Thanks Paul.

Doh! That was short lived. Hopefully MoPe is just playing dumb until the deal is across the line...

Which would make sense if we've already missed out on a couple of targets.

Agree that Lemina looks like exactly the kind of player we need to play alongside Romeo. On the surface, he looks like a hybrid of Wanyama and Schneiderlin.

No way MP would indicate it being close after knowing that we've been pipped to the post a few times this window. If Di Marzio says it's happening then it probably is as he doesn't usually put his name to a rumour unless it's basically done.

Makes me larf, our black box is meant to be so unique but whenever we are linked to a player so are other clubs.

I don't think it's unique. Maybe better than others, but it's naive to think other clubs can't identify talent through traditional scouting. I'm sure that we still do a fair bit of that!

Nothing screams uniqueness more than when Stoke, Watford and West Ham are in the hunt for a player.

Black box is just stats and vids and so not going to unearth a 15yo from the Ivory Coast. Do people think no one else is going to know about a Juventus player?

Interesting though as one or two are saying Everton/Arsenal targeted him. The rest say we are pipping Stoke.
