People voting to leave the European Union because they think it will bring about the glorious socialist utopia are probably the most pathetic leave wing of the lot. Useful idiots in the Farage project.

I know many remainers who voted remain as they see the EU as a way of safe guarding the UK from successive Tory governments

I guess there are weirdos on both sides of the argument

We could save £39 billion leaving the EU. Let's spend that on whatever we want to, instead of giving it to the failing EU
Membership of the Single Market is worth much more than our annual contributions, about twice as much, so when/if we leave we shall have even less revenue to splurge.

The £39bn figure is now down to about £33bn as a result of our extensions and would be spread over many years.

Soon it won't be worth leaving ;)

I know and swivels tell us we’re effectively an EU colony. A country’s citizens electing their own government. Who da thunk it.

Would these swivels be the ones working in Verhofstadt's office, mate?

You’ve linked to this page, you plonker.

The origins, timing and motivation for the remark have been spelled out to you before. It’s long been a swivel-eyed trope, made by JRM among others- Verhofstadt's office quipped about it to take the pîss out of the hysteria of Brexiters. They don’t believe it; swivels like you do.

You looked stupid for making the point then - you look even more stupid for repeating the same mistake now

Yeah pound falling is fck all to do with having lunatics in charge. Money is smart and doesn’t pay attention to Daily Mail leaders in dismissing experts.

Remember the pound and stock market soaring when we joined the ERM? Money's smart, alright.

After Boris told us al to be more optomistic and upbeat about leaving the EU, I have tried to look for the advantages.

So far, all I could come up with is that Mick McCarthy will have a lot more players to pick from once everyone's Irsih passports arrive !

You just don't have a clue, Whitey. The EU is a regulatory nightmare, one I am just waking up from. Alright if your selling washers, but for anything the Germans and French want to protect, you're f*****

If you’re no good at what you do you’re obviously in the wrong job. I sell bespoke electronic systems and I don’t have any problems. And I sell into France and Germany.

Perhaps they just don’t like you?

Wes at present we dont pay anything to the EU for financial services that are trillions, in the US you do. Once we leave they can put just .0000025 on each and that will dwarf the 39bn. Anyway the 39bn is over a period of time and we will cave in on that.

Short it or whatever the term is then. Seen as the UK share price and people think it is sh1t cos bunch of clowns now driving some ideological change ignoring all the predicted dire consequences,

Just be optimistic lamb farmers. It will all be ok Boris has found the magic money tree.

A couple of young German lads stopped me in the High Street to ask for directions to the stadium. Having given them, we had a short conversation about the relative merits of certain players. Hojbjerg's name came up, him having playing in the German top flight for Bayern Munich, and they said that he had never scored against Koln. I told them that that was about to change today, to much merriment from them.

We made a very promising start to the match, pressing high up the pitch and every player shutting down Koln's options to play out from the back by marking their players across the pitch, forcing them to concede possession either by hurried passes, or hoofing the ball up the pitch. But after the initial energy had declined, we slowly stopped the high press allowing Koln to come back into the game, and they began to spend much more time in our half. Playing three at the back with Bertrand and Valery was fine whenever we played the ball out wide, but with J-WP and Hojbjerg in midfield, we lacked the muscle to command it. The Koln midfield and defence players were strong and began to muscle our players off the ball too often. In the second half, we kept better possession with the introduction of Armstrong and Romeu, and Long is always useful when it comes to getting stuck in when tracking back.

Both new players gave a good showing. Adams looks a good threat up top and Djenepo is raw, but has good pace and an impressive desire to win back the ball when he lost it. Of the players who looked out of favour previously, Boufal impressed, and could be another of those players who Hasenhuttl turns around. Cedric looked solid playing largely on the left. Of the other players, I would always prefer Yoshida to Stephens. Benarek had a good game, Vestergaard was reliable, but we definitely still need another quality CB, with little time remaining to sign one. No problems with any of the others, except in the case of injuries, where we might be a bit light in their replacements, especially in the full back and CB positions.

Ings either desperately needs coaching in how to take a penalty, or to be dropped from taking them. That faltering run followed by the most feeble tap down the middle at waist height could have been saved by any tyro league keeper.

As the final pre-season match, I was expecting to see what would mostly be the first team choice, but as we played better in the second half apart from the first 20 minutes, the match seemed to ask as many questions of the team selection as it answered.

If they were German, I'm surprised you didn't spit on them and threaten violence against them if we didn't get a good Brexit deal.

Or, as we have long suspected on the Brexit thread, are you all mouth and no trousers?

You really are a nasty piece of work, aren't you? How much further into the gutter can you go, first accusing my wife of having sex with my non-existent Romanian gardener and now suggesting that I ought to mete out violence to any European football fans I come across. You follow me around like a bad smell, too infantile to be mentally capable of differentiating an opinion on a game of football from one on our membership of the EU. And Shurlock latching on to it makes him look just as childish. Perhaps you can explain why I should have any animosity towards any Europeans when I have Austrian and Italian parentage or ancestry. Do grow up and try and act your age. Didn't I have reason to believe that you would be going back to Canada? Please do make it soon.

As someone who disagrees vehemently with Wes Tender on the issue of Brexit and has had spats with him on this subject in the past , I must say that I agree with his comments on this thread. I always consider his match reports , like this one, to be fair and balanced and enjoy reading them.

We are all meant to be Saints fans. Let's try and keep the main forum on the subject of football and leave the petty point scoring to the Lounge.

Mind you .... his views on Brexit are complete b ollocks.

Mate, he's utterly losing it. This is the problem when you post racist and anti-semitic comments online - they are there for posterity, and it makes pretty much everything else you post meaningless and without value.

I have just sat through it and there are some interesting points there but also a lot of extreme views and inaccuracies.

Nobody stopped the UK from entering the EEA, that was entirely down to May/Nick Timothy and their red lines.

Also, referring to something Barnier has allegedly said to some ‘friends’ is too far removed from reality as a heckler makes clear.

What's off topic about it? It's posts that he has previously posted on the Brexit thread, saying that he dislikes Arabs and Jews? I agree, he should leave his racism out of ALL posts, whether that be on the Brexit thread, or anywhere on the internet, but he was the one who did it? Unless, of course, you agree with him (which I am starting to think is the reason you're defending him).

It's hard to take her views seriously when you find out she is a lesbian who has two kids with her partner yet stands against gay marriage as a threat to traditional family life.

A far right politician who stands against immigration from the middle East but employees a Syrian cleaning lady in her Swiss house.

And a women who sued a German satire TV show who it latter transpired pay her to help them come up with content.

Deal with a few points raised here, without playing "who" she is:

1. The EU (and specifically Germany) will be worse off without Britain in the EU.

Yep, don't think anyone has ever denied it. They'll be worse off, we'll be worse off.

2. Should they have allowed Cameron's concessions.

Yes, they should, but there are some inaccuracies about what she's saying around benefits claimants - we have controls to stop this happening. In fact, we are able to send people home if they cannot prove they have a job after 3 months, and the average time for a claimant to be able to get their first payment of Universal Credit...11 weeks.

3. Reform of thee EU needs to take place.

Absolutely, again, not sure any remainers have said differently.

4. She really seems to hate France...like REALLY hate them.

The EU burocrats want to make leaving so punitive that no others follow the route. That is obvious and Barnier is a very clever operator, he tore our pathetic negotiators to shreds. Hence the rubbish deal we have.

The Germans are starting to realise that we are more important than many thought. The French will be able to play Brussels to their tune as they manipulate to suit their agenda.

Because it’s full of faulty logic, distortions, exaggerations, contradictions and empty emotive rhetoric. Virtually every other sentence is a masterclass in it and I’ve got things to do than point it out, especially when previous efforts to dissect a hatchetjob article or a video have made sod all difference. I’ve found explaining the offside rule to the mrs less painful than explaining the basics of the EU and international trade to some of you

But let’s start with one of her comments: since you claim to be a neutral who has no skin in the game, perhaps, you can explain how she can simultaneously decry Germany’s loss of manufacturing capacity and domestic industry while criticising Germany and EU for not embracing competition enough and not focusing on advancing the single market.

Reconcile that little gem and I might indulge you a bit more pal.

"The EU burocrats..." . You'll find that the democratically-electing European heads of state are instructing Barnier, not the other way around pal.

What an absolute mess of a post.

To repeat for the nth time, the EU is simply following the processes and principles that were in place long before the UK chose to leave the EU. Once the UK settled on its red lines (again another choice and self-imposed restriction), the parameters and content of the negotiations more or less wrote themselves.

So what if the EU prioritises the integrity of the four freedoms and single market over short-term economic considerations? That's a wholly principled position and nothing to do with punishment (except for the truly hard of thinking and entitled snowflakes who don't like the fact that the EU has not rolled over to the UK's demands). You (or the AfD leader) have not explained why the EU should grant the UK the rights and privileges of membership without corresponding obligations and trade-offs? Nor have you explained how the UK's position is any different - it has decided that control of its borders and an illusory notion of sovereignty are more important than economics (at least there's a longer term economic rationale to the EU's position).

As for parroting the nonsense of a far right German politician -the type we would have been fighting 80 years ago- I expected a bit better from you pal. Then again the Express and DT, like the Mail did in the 1930s, can't get enough of Germany's latest nationalist wunderkid. As for France running the shop, I thought the EU was the Fourth Reich - or at least, it is to some of your other MENSA buddies on this thread.

The backstop, as currently designed, was proposed by the UK - the EU doesn't particularly like it because it gives the UK privileged access to the Single Market via NI but understands its necessity. The backstop is also supported by majorities on both sides of the border.

They can't let a non-member have the same benefits as a full member. If you want to see that as a punishment then you must have a strange sense of logic. Under WTO rules we have to be treated the same as every other MFN country. Whatever we get from the EU has to be available for everybody else. Unless it's a special bi-party special trade agreement which involves international treaties and takes several years to agree.

So, with No Deal looming, is anyone purchasing any currencies to at least try to make some money out of it?

Obviously dollar is a safe bet, but are there any other currencies that people would recommend to hold until post Brexit?

Euros ? :?

Euro will also suffer though - there won't be much of a deviation vs GBP (max a couple of cents).

I think parity could be on the cards, but the suggestion was light hearted, ( and has the comedy potential to provoke some of our more Eurosceptic colleagues ).
