I guess Sam Gallagher's new contract will se him take Jrod's place in the squad.

It's one of those deals where it's a good move for everyone concerned.

I see Leicester City have entered the race to sign Rodriguez, alongside WBA and Burnley. According to one Sunday paper anyway.

It's gonna be one of those where he starts banging them in for his new club and we'll regret letting him go. But to get 12mil for him at this current time is a great deal for Kat's pension.

Sad to see him go but too many false dawns. I thought he'd crack on after that away game vs Bournemouth but he never really looked like sustaining any form despite being given a lot of chances. Good that we are making a profit on him despite him having the best part of two seasons in the wilderness. Hopefully it works out for him.

Well it shouldn't. His time is up at SFC. Him having a good season at WBA doesn't mean he would have had a good season for us if he's stayed. No doubt the change itself will actually help him and give him a fresh start.

Hope he does well, cruel injury he suffered and hasn't really gotten close to being the player he was before it.

Not sure WBA style will suit him but hope he finds form, confidence and goals......oh and can keep his family off Twitter as it wouldn't be a wise move to have them slag off Pulis when he's dropped or out of the starting eleven

ALBION can confirm their first signing of the summer of 2017 with Jay Rodriguez joining the Club from Premier League rivals Southampton.

 

The 27-year-old forward has signed a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

 

Jay will meet his new team-mates tomorrow when the players report back for training as the Baggies begin shaping up for the Club's eighth consecutive Premier League campaign.

 

But after the handshakes and greetings it will be down to hard work immediately as he then jets off to Austria with the Baggies and the first phase of the pre-season schedule.

 

"After one or two 'near misses' I'm absolutely buzzing to be here," says Jay, referring to Albion's two previously thwarted attempts to recruit him from the St Mary's Stadium.

 

"The most important thing for any player is to be wanted – and Tony Pulis and Albion have made it clear just how much they have wanted me to join. That's fantastic for any footballer to hear.

 

"I'm genuinely delighted to be joining a club of Albion's stature. The team is full of top players and it's pretty clear that they are also a great set of lads."

 

Head Coach Tony Pulis tried to land Jay a year ago and again in the January window only for Saints to remain reluctant to do business.

 

Chairman John Williams commented: "I am delighted to welcome Jay to The Hawthorns. We tried to sign him during the previous two windows and it's third time 'deal done.' Our persistence has been rewarded.

 

"Jay is a proven Premier League striker, an England international and a player who will give Tony more attacking options."

I really thought we'd end up lumbered with him until he walked away for nothing. Pulled WBA's pants down here, as poor a signing for them as Rickie was. He'll be in league 1/ lower championship or retired in 2 years imo .

Just so long as he doesn't start a naked fight in the dressing room, like another of our ex-strikers allegedly did.

Good luck Jay. He was been 'back' from his knee injury for 2 years now and still not got going, whatever he does from now on, you can't say we didn't give him time. This is a good decision for both parties, I hope a fresh start at WBA does him some good.

Never rated him for a single second, even at his 'best'. Championship standard IMHO. Great bit of buisness.

I would guess not, I reckon Gabbi and Gallagher are the replacements.

That said I wouldn't be upset to see Long and/or Austin leave if we could get someone better/fitter in.

If he's first choice guess we'll find out if he was a one season wonder or not. It all clicked for him under Mopo, but the season before and ever since he was decidedly average.

Never a convincing finisher at the best of times. Good money, especially with his injury record and post-injury form.

Hope we can still mug someone into over-paying for Shane Long's pace and hard work before the summer is out.

Fantastic deal for us. £12m for a crocked player with zero confidence is amazing business. I hope he does well at WBA but he only had one good season for us. He never was the most confident lad and that was why he has been so poor the last couple of season.

A player I feel a bit sorry for. When he signed I was pleased, signing one of the best (if not the best) talent in the Championship. (I like that model.) He was excellent before his injury, on the cusp of going got to the World Cup, wanted by Spurs, then the agony of that injury arrives. Since then he's lost his pace, but you can see the intelligence is still there, the instinctive goal against Bournemouth a case in point. But we can't go into yet another season saying "I hope he comes good this season" when potentially £15 million is on the table and he wants out. I'd like to see him come good again but I fear he's on the downward spiral. £12 million in the bank for our 4th choice striker and the risk is now with WBA. I'll take that.

Seems a good deal for all parties. Since his injury he hasn't seemed anywhere as effective as well as the fact we haven't used him out wide where he was at his most effective for us. Now we've got Gallagher he was obvious candidate we could move on.

Nice lad such a shame for both him and the club as it turned out; hopefully a fresh start will kickstart his career. Still feel if Clueless had given him a proper run out then he was still our most potent threat until Manola, given he was more mobile than CA and never missed as many as Shane.

A really classy player, but still not operating on quite the same level he was. Really hope he gets it back, he was a joy to watch.

Never understood why we offered him a new contract when we did, but now I know, it was to ensure we protected our investment and allow us to recoup the transfer fee at some point. Very good decision. The extra wages spent as part of the contract now are recouped.
