Inter Milan v Saints build up

Stuart Taylor plays for Saints? When did that happen?

well he hasn't actually " played " in a competitive game yet, but he's good back-up in case of .....:scared:,(any unforseen situations)

....but he does have a certain amount of experience as no.2 to international keepers in teams like Arsenal and Man.City in seasons when they won " things ".

No it wont. The most important match in Saints' history (living memory) was in 1976. The second one was Coventry at home.

If we beat inter its special because its a big club away in a massive stadium.... but its not worth a damn to the club or the fans. They will come bottom of the group.

Sour mash isn't right, but neither are people who want to make this into the biggest game in the club's fairly modest history.

Well I am right then, as that's my point.

It's clearly not our biggest game in recent history thankfully. No club rests players and has plenty of empty seats for their biggest game.

For those looking for a drink out here, the Navigli Canal area is the only bit of town where there's a n actual proper run of pubs for a crawl

finished my final bit of packing, now to watch Man City game tonight and fly tomorrow!

absolutely buzzing for the game, never thought I could watch Saints play a competitive game at the San Siro!

Also, what are we all thinking regarding half and half scarves?:lol:

Saints website: Saints will be backed by 6,715 supporters in the San Siro, but will be cheered on by many more back at home – and we will have all of you covered.

I would say the 0-0 draw on the last day of the season in 1996, securing our premier league status. Highlight of the entire Saints history. The Cup doesn't matter that much.

From the BBC preview:

"The match at the San Siro will be the first meeting between the two clubs and comes six years after Inter last won the Champions League.

That same season Southampton, then managed by Alan Pardew, won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and finished seventh in League One."

Gives you a sense of perspective.

I've been to Milan many times. General strike is not really a problem for the trains/underground/buses/trams etc. The network is shut down 9am-5pm but if you travel before/after those times, its no problem. Planes - if you are with BA then no problem. Lufthansa no problem too.Other airlines might drop a couple of flights. AlItalia might lose half its flights but thats rare. Get the Milan transport app for phone. Public transport is fantastic and cheap! Taxis - plenty of them but tend to jack the prices by 25%. Most take credit cards. There are lots of these general strikes in Italy but the impact is nowhere near as bad as Echo is making out. I have never noticed a difference because I have been working. What a daft time to call a strike if you really want to inconvenience people!

Drinks - there are plenty of microbreweries/specialist beer bars. Check them out on Google. There's a lot of Inter support around but in the specialist bars, no ubers. Canals are good fun and if lots of saints fans around, unlikely to be a problem.

Good luck those who are going. Wish I could be there. It's a reasonably safe city. There's a couple of dodgy areas but they are well outside city centre. Nothing to worry about really.

God, the Inter fans must be utterly miserable

I had hoped there was a League 1 fixture on this day 6 or 7 years ago but the closest I can find is a trip to Oldham on 17th October 7 years ago. So there you go; Boundary Park to the San Siro in 7 years and 3 days.

As for the team

Forster

Martina - Fonte - Virgil - McQ

Hoj - Romeu - JWP

Tadic

Long - J Rod

Sorry, but this is one of the biggest games in my 45 years of going. Much bigger than a L1 game in Brighton for example.

I appreciate that it doesn't have much resting on it but this is Saints playing European royalty in one of the worlds iconic stadiums.

Stick your details up and tell me that to be ny face. Pay your fiver and send it private message.

Really, a punch up over whether it's a big game or not. LOL.

The way I see it is that when AC played Pompey it was the biggest career game of all time for players like Inzaghi who had dreamt about playing them since the days of Alan Biley. Surely it must be the same for Inter and us. This is massive for them.

Just him, no one else.

I agree it isn't a big match, but it's a big occasion especially for the fans. Really looking forward to it and for others of age Italian football was in it's prime when I was young teenager.

Great memories of Italia 90, Sunday afternoon Italian football in an era when live matches were still a novelty and the great Italian sides of the early late 80s and early 90s, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Roma etc. remember watching Ipswich and villa both play in the San Siro and think how great it'd be for saints to play there but never thinking we would. We go to old Trafford, Anfield etc every year so this is a real on off, but it isn't a big game.

Pretty much sums it up in terms of our season this game doesn't have much riding on it we could lose and still progress in Europe. As a symbol of how far we've come it's a special game but other games in our history have been bigger based on their importance to the clubs progression.

Still looking forward to it this game very much but looking forward to the return leg at SMS more. Hope all those going have a good time and see a great win.

You didn't write this by any chance? One or two inaccuracies and omissions, but sums up our rise and Inter's decline quite well.

Looks like some people have trouble with English comprehension in their comments. The DM does not say Cortese was popular, it was Markus that endeared himself to the St Mary's crowd.

Said it better than I. Big occasion but not a big game in the classic sense.

**** me are people really arguing about how big a game this !?

Its a big occasion, not a big game. Simple as that. If the posters above can't agree with the majority and want to start threatening to meet up in real life "to have it out" then, well.... what can you do?!?!

I am buzzing, can't wait to get home, crack open a few beers, and watch saints play (and hopefully beat) the 3 times champions of europe on their own patch. I also can't wait to see our away support belting out OWTS from the top tiers of the San Siro... That will be special.

Well to be fair you can read this a couple of ways.....

"In the boardroom, a power struggle had developed between Katharina Liebherr and chairman Nicola Cortese - the trusted consigliere to the deceased former owner who had quickly endeared himself to the St Mary's crowd."

It reads like Cortese is the subject of the sentence.

I wander how much money he has earned in a career that has so far amassed about 40 first team appearances!
