Burnley 1 Saints 0 - Reaction

The recruitment team took a gamble on our attacking options in the Summer and it just hasn't worked out. We need better quality attackers this window or we will be in a relegation battle.

Absolute **** poor result, I know they're strong at home but they were easily beatable today.

The midfield 3 offer us **** all in attack and 9 times out of 10 just slow us down.

Going to Burnley who have big strong centre backs with a completely one dimensional constantly shovel the ball out wide and cross to their centre backs was just embarassing. Really frustrating as we were better than them but completely fell into their completely obvious game plan and then got caught out on a set piece.

Unlike many on here I thought Saints played well but looked useless up front, primarily because Redmond and Tadic are so bloody terrible.

Jrod looks sharp and we played with more tempo today. The difference being they have a keeper who can make saves, we don't: Forster has been terrible all season and I wish Macarthy was fit because Forster needs replacing.

Romeu makes too many stupid mistakes despite being immense for most of the game. Most times he makes a silly mistake the opposition scores!

We are completely toothless and shame on the club! They have let Puel, and the fans, down by not going all out to bring in an AMC and striker who can score.

With more composure and talent up front we would have been out of sight today. 18 shots and only 3 on target.

Let's be realistic, we didn't play that badly at all. They were lucky to win that game.

Doesn't matter. Its about points and results.

You could argue the other way saying Burnley defended really well and Heaton played a blinder, they executed their game plan well and were worthy of the 3 points.

Yes they took a massive gamble in the summer. it was obvious by November that we needed a striker, so why haven't we got one in this window ?

Four losses in a row? Funny, I could have sworn we drew last week and beat Liverpool in midweek. Must have been dreaming I guess.

This one just can't be blamed on Puel. Almost identical to the game we lost at this same ground two years ago. This one is the player's fault.

Heaton is simply a much better keeper than Forster and has been for some time. Plus he's a leader and captain. Just another frustrating and annoying performance after such a hopeful victory on Weds. Forget the league, just do enough to stay clear of relegation and put everything into both cups now.

If we play like that for the rest of the season, we'll get more wins than defeats.

Leicester game is must win though.

It shouldn't surprise anymore, but god Shane Long and Tadic are bang average championship players. When you throw Redmond and Rodriguez into the mix you have absolutely no threat at all.

Without Bertrand we would have had nothing going forward.

Aside from the league cup this season has been very poor. Take an ok looking league position aside and we havent really played well in many league games, certainly not from an attacking perspective.

We simply didnt replace the goals of Mane and Pelle and have negated Long by playing a style that doesn't suit him - he is a waste of time at the moment.

Feel a bit for Puel as he has inherited a squad short on attacking quality, a thankless task of trying to match our highest PL finish and having lots more games to negotiate. That said, the rotation whilst necessary also means too many players get regular games without earning it - the likes of Hojbjerg and JWP have been dire for ages now. Long too.

This coming summer is vital because we are going nowhere fast. Having the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley, a limited WBA and fiasco WHU above us after half the season is not acceptable given we were miles ahead of these sides last season.

We probably won't spend in Jan but its ****ing obvious where we are short and the leadership of the club have largely ruined the season by leaving us woefully short in goals.

I'm totally bored with Puel now and his complete inability to set this team up with any sort of chance to win/draw consistently away from home. He sets us up not to lose when he should be setting us up to try to win. It is utterly negative dross. We have had a few seasons where the coaches appreciated that you have to go all out to win every game including the away matches because getting the three points is a big deal. Puel is incapable of trying to win by going for it away from the comfort of St Marys. The man is like his football - utterly drab and boring. Missed chances and goalkeeping errors don't help but it's the negativity that does for us every time.

Trouble is half the league need a good striker, but who would be willing to sell us one at this stage of the season? Seems every shot on target against us seems to be going in at the moment. We went through a phase like that last season, but we always looked like we would be able to score to get ourselves out of the rut and up the table. This season, as soon as we go behind we don't look like scoring.

Agreed but who do we have that can score? We are terrible up front - JRod looks sharp and would have liked him to start today. Redmond and Tadic were woeful and offered nothing. Hope Sims starts in midweek as he offered more than these 2 t**ts combined in his cameo.

Yet another game where we were the better team for the first three quarters of the game but with no cutting edge.

A poor effort by our keeper for their goal and a superb save from theirs was the difference in the end.

Fine margins but those of us in the pragmatic/optimistic camp are going to have our resolve severely tested over the next few weeks if we don't start converting performances into results.

As someone pointed out on the match thread: Koeman coaxed 13 goals out of Long last season.......

....... Didn't we bring Puel in because he 'makes players better'?

We really have gone backwards in every department.

And Tadic scored about the same - Puel might not be responsible for investing in the team but he is directly accountable for how his coaching has impacted the performances of the players. An alarming number seem to be having poor season. No wonder fonte wants out.

You really don't know that we were not in for a striker last summer. It is just as likely that we were but just couldn't agree a deal for whatever reason.

Important to remember that Burnley are generally excellent at home, and it was never going to be an easy game. As much as being happy with a point against Burnley seems like a problem in itself, I'd have been tempted to take it before the game, given our respective form.

The game was pretty dull, but the fact that we restricted them to few chances while creating a bit (let's be honest, not a lot) ourselves was an ok effort. 0-0 probably would have been a fair reflection and result, and if anyone deserved to get a winner it was us. It's clear that we just don't have enough good players, and some key players are out of form - but maybe that's because they're playing with other players who aren't very good. The goal we conceded was shambolic. Poor to give it away in the first place but absolutely horrific goalkeeping form Forster. If the ball ends up on the keeper's side of the goal, unless it has it has a wicked deflection or is a postage-stamp rocket, it should be saved. If Barton curls it over the wall into the top left corner, give him his due. Don't let him score by essentially passing it into an empty net.

a bit unlucky not to claim a point. However usual negative tactics all game and isolated striker mean no goals again. Not once has this negative coach played 2 up top when struggling for goals.

How about letting the strikers play off each other? So stubborn, Puel out.
