Thread: Melchester Rovers

  1. Default Melchester Rovers

In these days of greedy footballers, it is nice to look back on the loyalty shown by the Melchester Rovers players who were wearing the famous red and yellow strip back when I was growing up.
Men were men in those days.

    1. Tubby Morton 15 years
    2. Dave Williams 11 "
    3. Bob Roberts 11 "
    4. Hughie Griffiths 7 "
    5. Paddy Ryan 3 "
    6. Buster Brown 3 "
    7. Pierre Dupont 2 "
    8. Blackie Gray 35 "
    9. Roy Race 4 Ever
    10. Jim Hallet 9 "
    11. Tom Dawson 14 "

    Manager Ben Galloway

Really used to look forward to reading about the exploits of Roy Race and his team mates before the game became exploited by the money men

But they succumbed to the money men too. Melchester smashed the transfer fee record back in the late eighties when they spunked three million quid on Scottish Mo Johnston lookalike striker Andy McClaren.

Frustrating that the board never showed ambition to make a bid for Hotshot Hamish. Personally think Roy had too much influence so deal was never likely.

    Paco Diaz,
a foreign fancy dan winger way ahead of his time. I think he may have even refused to play to force a move back to the continent.

I would never field a team without Raven on the wing and Baldy Hagan as manager. You guys know nothing, stupid melts!

Didn't Melchester have a season in the relegation zone but put an amazing run together to finish 17th, just one goal above the drop zone?

Didn't Spandau Ballet play for them?
