I'll bet you a cheese sandwich that we're in one with or without Romeu. Just look at our recent form, and most of that was with VVD playing. The latter end of our season may not be glorious but it won't end in relegation. It would be criminal if we get sucked into a relegation fight, we had half a season to find a replacement for Fonte. leeham_69 Posted 2 February, 2017 Share Posted 2 February, 2017 I have wondered for a while if the club's longer term plan was to shift Bertrand to CB as he got older and slower because he is good defensively and positionally. I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later - obviously we lose an attacking threat from full-back if they do move him, but a good full back seems easier to find than a good CB. Part of me reckons it would be harsh to drop Stephens after the win against Liverpool - maybe Bertrand in for West Ham to see how he looks? Or would Stephens be better for a longer run? We have a choice over whether we want to truly try and progress with the club. The foundations and funds are there. Les is more interested in running it as a sustainable business. I hear people say it's risky to throw a load of money at signings to try and buy success. You know what's also a risk Les? making a massive **** up with the recruitment of defenders. Even if it isn't, 40 points is 3 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats. To put that in context, this coming weekend in 04/05 we were drawing 2-2 with Everton after that injury time Bent goal. We then got another 14 points in the remainder of the season playing Bernard, Davenport, Jackobsson, Delap and an aging Claus in defence. I'd take our current options over that lot. That gets mentioned every season and people were using same logic last season for us. More often it doesn't happen. Whilst we have made a monumentous f*ck up with signing a CB we have enough in the side to get 12 points from 15 games. There are 5 teams between us and the bottom 3 who are very poor sides. I'm more disappointed in the clear lack of ambition by Reed and co. Actually feel sorry for a Puel. You're right, luckily for us that team is Premier League champions Leicester City I don't think we'll go down, but we are of course at risk of being dragged into it. Who knows, we might turn it round and many of our concerns will prove unfounded, but there at least looks a decent chance of our season getting worse, not better (except from the final obviously), and when the 'best of the rest' is probably Everton, who aren't even very good, that's both sickening (because it's Everton) and frustrating (because we could easily be in that spot with a bit more assertiveness). Agreed with rest of that post but there is huge difference between Bertrand and Robertson. Robertson is much weaker with a tendency to dive in and give away penalties.
