Loved the atmosphere, stood with a great bunch of young and old lads at the back of the lower tier right behind the goal on the right hand side and we didn't stop for 90 minutes. Fair play if you were in that group, top support. I was the old loon with the sash shirt and the middle aged wife with a camera (she loved it too!). Was a bit weird seeing a lot of the lower tier seated though, and gutted for people who couldn't get tickets and then to hear of the empty seats, I reckon I could have sold 20 of them on my own.

Yes, I was there, probably only a few yards away from you with my son, also wearing the sash shirt. As you say, that section was loud and proud for much of the match. One or two at the back used some pretty ripe language aimed at the Mancs in the Wembley section tier just behind us who cheered and tried to provoke us. Bloody typical to have plastic Mancs in our end.

This. I plucked up the courage to watch the highlights this morning and it's made me feel worse realising how close we came to winning the game with the chances we had. I think we also had a good shout for a penalty for the foul on Long towards the end too. So annoying.

I sat down late last night to watch the highlights but couldn't face it. Not sure I ever will, like my tape of the Arsenal FA Cup Final that is gathering dust somewhere.

Whilst ever so proud of the team on the pitch, I was truly amazed with the performance of the 12th Man. Not just the fantastic and frequent renditions of OWTSGMI but the noise made throughout. One moment is especially to be cherished ... Shortly after we equalised, the entire Saints end broke into the 7 Nation Army Gabbiadini song, with just about everyone waving their red-and-white scarves which we had been given. I looked around from my seat in Block 548 and witnessed one of those truly amazing moments of collective action - crowds at Buckingham Palace for a Royal celebration, the millions bathing in the Ganges, starling murmurations, wildebeest crossing the Serangeti ... Saints fans at Wembley. Nobody does it better.

 

Is there a video of that from the United end anywhere? Would love to see it again.

As for support....we (united) didn't hear saints fans apart from when you scored.

 

It may have seemed to some of you that you were so loud, but honestly you're getting carried away with the occasion.

Having watched the game back on TV, your observations about the noise is clearly bias and inaccurate. The TV coverage showed that both sets of fans made themselves heard and the atmosphere came across incredibly well, I think. The 62nd minute tribute to Liebherr was nice to see again, but the response from Man Utd fans wasn't.

What I found most upsetting is that football still very much has a hooligan element and sadly, what I saw yesterday is that the absolute majority of the disgusting nonsense came from Man Utd fans. Maybe I just haven't been to enough games and that this isn't news to people, but it was to me.

Some examples:

- Exiting the tube station, I saw a Man Utd fan chant some very hateful things towards an Irish Saints fan - the Police had to get involved.

- Close to the stadium, on Wembley Hill Road, a group of Man Utd fans started throwing projectiles into the walking crowd of fans (pint glasses, full cans of beer, jugs, mugs, etc.) - the Police had to get involved.

- Absolute bellendery on the tube platform after the game - again, from Man Utd fans.

Now, I'm sure some Saints fans were awful too, but what I saw suggests that they were in the absolute minority.

I for one kept fairly quiet outside the stadium - the above examples are why!

Oh bloody hell the morning after,well im gutted and its over but, oh my how we nearly pulled it off. Thought JWP who ive said on many occasions why is he in the team, had for once and hopefully many more to come an outstanding game. Disappointing again at our rather stiff goalkeeper at not being able to save any of the soft goals that we conceded,thought Tadic had a poor game,Boufal didnt quite anticipate the pass to others quite quick enough on our break aways near the end.All i kept hearing on the commentary form that w a n k er Neville is doubting southamptons ability to keep up the closing down throught the 90 minutes.Hey hell we outplayed their "worldclass" footballers from the off .Yes there's going to be an element of slacking off the pace but when we as a club dont get to play as often as we really should at major finals, yes very often we need to take the opportunity to shine and yup we sadly fell just short.

It might be strange, but two of the best Saints games I have ever been to have been defeats. The loss in the play-off semi-final second leg was heartbreaking, but it was still an absolutely exhilarating experience that I will never forget. I am not sure yesterday quite matched that in terms of excitement, but I was kind of blown away by how well we played. I thus came away feeling disappointed, but not devastated. It was obviously a very good game. I'd say it was easily our best performance of the season and in terms of dominance, right up there with the beatings we have given to some of the poorer sides this season (West Ham, Sunderland etc.). All it needed was a Saints winner. Despite lacking that it was still a great experience and something to add to the memory banks, which in the end is all that matters.

The way we kept the ball from back to front was brilliant. Players like Yoshida showed great composure on the ball, waiting for the right pass rather than smacking it down a channel. The midfield hardly ever turned the ball over. Maybe United didn't press or get tight enough. But the first touch of every Saints player was immaculate, which meant they had time and space to work. No one needs a reminder of Romeu's ability, but boy can he play. I struggle to have a bad word about any of the outfield players. Perhaps Boufal tried a little too hard when he came on, but is that something to moan about? I did think Forster could have saved the first goal, or certainly got a hand to it, but its not the time to pick fault.

Didn't sleep a wink last night. Ugh.

Hate to pick someone out but Fraser has to make a few saves that aren't right at him. Oh for a Niemi or a Flowers in goal yesterday. It's those moments, those crucial saves (like de Gea's two on JWP) that win the silverwear.

Could be decades before we get a better chance than that. ****!

A lot of people have blamed Forster but one player had more to do with each of the goals that we conceded. For the first Davis was the end man in the wall the other four made made themselves as tall as possible as the ball was kicked, on the other hand once Smalling had peeled away Davis lowered his head and was as small as possible only coming up as the ball went over him into the net. For the second he didn't close Rojas tight then didn't track him and just let him go, passing to the unmarked Lingarde and for the third was in a position to tightly close down Herrera but again just did nothing and let him cross for the goal.

It was a brilliant game, the result contaminated by the poor decision to disallow the first goal. The team played well especially pulling back from two down. What a buy Gabbiadini looks. We have some good players, missed VVD, but we need to upgrade and strengthen the middle of the field due to the lack of goals from that department and the fact only one player Romeu can decisively win the ball.

When you look at the stats, it suggests we were the better team for sure (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39018813)....but if you compare this to the stats from the away leg against Liverpool (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38659708), it would suggest that Liverpool were by far the greater team - they were not. They were awful.

Everytime Man Utd came forward, they looked dangerous. So did we....but we made too many errors which is why I think that, on balance, we were beaten by the marginally better team.

They were no different where I was sitting either - the casino in Perth. Giving it the large one and getting in Saints fans faces when Zlatan scored the winner. If not for the very big security blokes doing the rounds something worse may have happened.

And then one of the ring-leaders stopped me as I walked out to shake hands and say we were unlucky.

I left once Saints came down from the presentation. You are right, Wembley Way was packed with Mancs.

I also sat in Club Wembley at the Saints end as my sons used our season tickets. The Mancs around us left after our equaliser and never returned !

There were a number of MU fans on our train home (well, there be, wouldn't there; after all, the train was travelling through Surrey) and to be fair they were all of the view that we were desperately unlucky and deserved to win. The only puzzling thing was when I questioned Ibrahimovitch as MotM - I thought De Gea was. They seemed puzzled and said he didn't have much to do!

Don't know about you, but I have lifted Man U up a few notches on my disliked clubs/fans table. Spurs still top, mind. You can bet that the clamour for goal line technology would be at fever pitch today if it was them that had a goal disallowed, not us (I know, would never happen).

oh and although its been said by every man and dog on here, Gabbiadini is a proper player. Not just his finishing, but his all round game, especially his first touch and movement. He is constantly making runs, some picked out, some not. A player of his quality really does show how average our other strikers are.

His movement is on a different planet. Defenders are going to have to be wide awake when he's around. He's not obviously quick in terms of his all round game, but his little darts and moves are done quickly. He seems to have that instinct as well.

Both goals at Sunderland, both goals yesterday (and the third..) were from instinct. Didn't have time to think about it, just hit it.

What an amazing afternoon and atmosphere at Wembley. Looking down from the heights of the stands Saints swarmed all over the pitch and had United on the rack. But a dodgy lino and a disastrous January transfer lost us this match. With Fonte in the back four I believe our defence would have held. How much longer can Saints survive our 'short term sell for profit' policy?

Every player did his best and they were magnificent. If we had gone to extra time I think we would have won.

This. I was near the halfway line and my memory of the day will be the cobntrast between the two halves of the stadium. One end was a boiling sea of red and white whilst the other was row after row of dark grey tombstones.

People have been overreacting, especially those stupid enough to assume they knew what it was about, but I'd like to think that if I were an opposing fan I'd just sit still and assume there was a good reason for it. Not like we were all gonna light up our phones simultaneously just for the fun of it.

Heartbreaking way to lose the game having been the best side throughout. Have to be incredibly proud of the performance from the team. Fans were fantastic, really generated a great atmosphere.

This is a new era of Southampton FC. We have been in the quarters the last two years and now reached a final. I think we will have some more similar outings in the years to come. Great time to be Saints fan.

For anybody that uses Snapchat, Saints' official one managed to catch the second Gabbiadini goal as it went in from within the bottom tier, if anyone knows how to save that (I don't!) then that'd be some quite good footage to share. Be quick though it'll expire in about 30 minutes!

The linesman who wrongly disallowed Saints first goal was Stuart Burt.

His last Saints game I believe was the 3-0 win over Leicester where Vvd was stamped on (imo deliberately) by that "dog turd" of a Leicester player.

If he was, he was he would have had a better view of the "stamp" than the Referee.
