Value of Saints squad

Appreciate this is very much an open question as it depends on age/length of contract/nationality etc but some of the 'valuations' being bandied about in the media for players seem to be eye watering.

Interested in the view from people who keep tabs on such things.

According to the main man at Palace, the best value summer signings were Redmond and Wanyama (one in/one out!!)

Are you aware that 15M is not even that much in today's market?

Imagine we had just sold VvD

£15m is probably our upper limit in getting in a top quality replacement

Can you see it. Close your eyes and imagine les Reed sat at the desk with the cheesy grin with ur new star CB.

Can you see it?

Now, imagine we had just signed Maya Yoshida as our most expensive defender in our history

You have significantly undervalued all of these in the 2017 transfer market. A decent season in the Championship sees players sell for £15m. All of those apart from Yoshida & Davis we'd be able to sell for £20m+ if we wanted.

Yoshida - £15 million

15 million for Yoshida? :scared:

Yoshida is easily worth £15m

In what universe?

A universe where a decent season in the Championship sees players sell for £15m. Let alone a regular for a top half Premier League side.

You appear confused at the difference between a Premier League team buying a player from abroad and selling a player.

There is significantly better value for players in the foreign market. That doesn't mean we couldn't get a high value for existing players at the club, especially if there is interest from other Premier League clubs.

Being at a Premier League club inflates Yoshida's value. £15m in the Premier League for a club to club transfer is not a huge amount, a club like Bournemouth spent that on Jordan Ibe in a Prem to Prem transfer. But £15m in the European transfer market can still get you a very decent player... similar to want we paid for Gabbiadini.

Maya is a proven premier league CB, and still has a long career ahead of him.

He is easily worth £15m.

Yes, the market is ****ing stupid now. Massively overinflated and i hate that. Yet in this market Maya is £15m worth of CB.

Must another £70- £80m of 'value' there

Jordan Ibe had the English premium.

Think £15m overinflates him a little bit- £9m/£10m seems fair price for him.

if someone offers us £15m id take it now and id trust our blackbox to find someone better abroad.

It's funny how a players stock can rise and fall so quickly.

I've always been a fan on Yoshidas, he's always been a decent backup (with the big mistakes sprinkled in) and he's been here for 6-7 years no fuss.

But to jump him from 3rd /4th choice CB to £15-25m is a bit far even for some on the SWF.

Since VVDs injury we have won just 4 of the 11 games, and conceded 22 goals. Can't blame all that on him, but what has he really done to justify his acceleration to one of the premier leagues elite defenders?

Is it just another SWF mental bias

Think it would be helpful for some to watch some football occasionally rather than just MOTD

As someone who has only seen almost every game home and away I would say Yoshida now would comfortably fetch £15 million. He is now a proven centre back with pace, strength and an outstanding attitude. Centre backs this good arevas rare as hens teeth these days, and at 28 he is five years younger than Fonte. In other words, Jose was just starting his Premier League career at this age and as many will remember was pretty rocky in our first year up.

When you ask this sort of question you have to understand that it will be answered by two sets of responses,

those that try to answer it honestly based on current marketplace value with comparable fees being paid and the

other lot by responses loaded with their own agenda and anti Les Reed/SFC dross.

This seems to be a Maya thread now.

Question..... would people be happy with him as 1st choice CB next season? Seems people are.

Yes, very happy with Yoshida as our 'number 2' centre back, and would be equally delighted if he ends up as number 3.

If we could 'buy' another 30 goals from somewhere and strengthen the midfield it wouldn't be the end of the world if we ended up with Yoshida and Stephens playing regularly.

I think so, providing he was alongside a more commanding CB like VVD. I'd also consider using him in midfield if we were ever short there, which i doubt we will be with current personnel. IIRC he's played in midfield for Japan before, but not sure if this is entirely accurate. But i think he's as good now as Fonte was last season, but not as good as Fonte was in his prime - yet.

Most figures seem far too low- if we sold Cedric for £18m, JWP for £10m or Forster for £15m I'd be pretty underwhelmed to be honest.

Depends for me whether you're saying their value in respect to Saints or their market value in general. Højbjerg may be worth about £15m at the moment, but I'd say in my opinion as a young but experienced international with a lot of potential he's worth far more than £15m for Saints.

Although you could argue that for Saints his value is far less as he doesn't play much and when he does he gives the ball away in very dangerous positions. It's all completely subjective anyway.

Yoshida is going to be 29 this year, but I still think £15 million in the current climate is about right for him. You have to remember as well that he is a genuine trailblazer in the Premier League as far as Japanese players go, he's managed to establish himself in a decent Premier League team and has played well over 100 times for us. So that in itself will have commercial value for the club, if you want to look at it that way.

I'd value Boufal at about £15 million too - undoubtedly the talent is there, but we just haven't seen enough of him so far to justify his club record fee. Keeping my fingers crossed though!

That's fair, but like Romeu I'd expect him to play a lot more; he's had to adapt to playing football not just week in week out, but without a winter break which a lot of players coming into the Premier League seem to struggle with somewhat.

£15m is fair at the moment, but his potential means that he should be judged with a few years in mind, not just the current player.

Yep agree, so I would say my valuation of about £300m is about right.

Agree with most - Boufal would be 15-20m given his age, potential and what we paid though. Gabbiadini and Romeu also on the low side given their performances this season and the length of time left on their contracts.

Austin £4m

Redmond £30m

Austin still has more goals than Redmond and he's been injured since November.

Redmond has played 3x the amount of minutes and he's still behind the £4m duff

However Redmond is considerably better, younger, bigger potential and not injury prone. Been one of our best players this season IMO, especially our best player in the second half of the season for me.

If Austin could get fit, stay fit and get in the team most weeks then there is £15m in there for him, but unfortunately for him, he can't.

Opinions are opinions though.

its weird, you have Yoshida at about half that on Football Manager

Beautiful.

I don't enter a price for how much the players are worth into the database. The value shown uses a formula taking a huge range of things into account and isn't simply inputted. Plus if you've played the game you should know that the price listed isn't what the player would sell for, often it takes a lot more to actually buy them.

Which is consistent with MLG's trashing of the player over the years on here.

What on earth are you on about!? :mcinnes:

having a look at old threads about Yoshida...This is from Matt Le God.........(when Maya was linked away)

Can you actually link to the entire post and how the flow of the conversation went? Rather than the quote and no link.

I have a feeling you may have taken my words out of context and left out something afterwards.

Even if that isn't the case, are you not aware that players can improve? Yoshida this season is significantly better than in any of his previous seasons.

You can't really answer this question, it's just too dependant on the length of contract remaining and who is biddding.

Take Andy Carroll as a classic example. Newcastle knew Liverpool had just received £50m from Torres and were desperate to replace him before the end of the window. I thought they were mental turning down a £30m bid, then the Scousers put in a truly hilarious bid of £35m, probably about £60m at today's prices.
