The whole thing about restructure and seeking the right sort of leadership for the future suggests he was asked to leave. If he resigned of his own volition then it would have talked about how they are seeking a suitable replacement to continue his good work....or something like that. OK, that was not good corporate governance as the City requires the two posts to be separate but maybe as a Swiss private company they could get away with it.
