Are we still selling ourselves as a stepping stone club?

Messaging seems to have changed this summer and wonder if we still promote ourselves and sign players on the premise that we are a stepping stone?

Hojberg spoke openly about using us and making the step to one of the top sides last summer and recently Bednarek spoke about it openly.

With the club now saying VVD, Bertrand ect are not for sale (despite top club interests) has the messaging just changed and do we risk having unsettled and annoyed players that signed with that stepping stone promise?

Players will still be sold, van Dijk isn't going to be here for the rest of his career even if we keep him this season. He is good enough for a top Champions League team.

I don't see why that matters. It is a good thing we have players the top clubs want, the time to worry is when we don't. That doesn't look like happening any time soon. It is better to be a "stepping stone club" and get to see some top young players for 2 or 3 years, than plod along with players the top clubs will never want and keep them for 7 years.

All this has been pointed out to you time after time. You choose to ignore it, then days, weeks, months, years later you bring it up again and again! :mcinnes:

The number of non-selling clubs is tiny! A handful of clubs aren't selling clubs, Real Madrid & Barcelona, perhaps a tiny tiny number of others.

Dont get me wrong if the "not for sale" words are not just bluster then im delighted.

But what affect does that have on the players that signed on that premise?

Nothing - they signed the contract. The stepping stone happens once we decide to sell. Which has always been the case
