Venezuela's New Dawn

Guided Missile

If ever there was an example of the failed experiment, that the hard left Marxist dream of, for Great Britain, it is Venezuela today. From Chavez to Maduro, Stalin to Putin, Mao Zedong to Deng Xiaoping, Kim Il-sung to Kim Jong-un and Derek Hatton to Jezza, when will the electorate learn.

I wonder if Galloway and Corbyn regret their support for Chavez and their ilk, but the main lesson is; if socialism of their brand doesn't work in the potentially richest country in the world, where would it work?

But your failing company receives government funding. Socialism for the rich eh.

Galloway three years ago in the Independent:

Under Chavez' revolution the oil wealth was distributed in ever rising wages and above all in ambitious social engineering. He built the fifth largest student body in the world, creating scores of new universities. More than 90 per cent of Venezuelans ate three meals a day for the first time in the country's history. Quality social housing for the masses became the norm with the pledge that by the end of the presidential term, now cut short, all Venezuelans would live in a dignified house.

The Labour Party prognosis; the masses are good and if you are nice enough to all of them, they will all become productive.

The Tory alternative; the masses are lazy and bad and if you are nasty enough to them they will all become productive.

Unsurprisingly neither is a useful theory to understand or manage the modern world but you crack on and re-run 1945 or 1979 or something again. It's your time after all.

This quote always made me cringe a little; .

More than 90 per cent of Venezuelans ate three meals a day for the first time in the country's history.

What's the source on that? Who's doing that survey? Seems like a statistic plucked out of thin air to support his claim, to me

Regardless of what anyone thinks of GM on here, he is entirely correct on this one.

Not sure what his point is, though. Perhaps you can translate for the simpleton.

He first pulls a bunch of random names out of the air -many of whom have nothing economically or ideologically in common with each other (Putin, Deng XiaoPing?) and then makes an entirely spurious claim that Corbyn and the Labour manifesto wants to run the UK along similar lines. I've been very critical of the Labour manifesto but the reductio ad absurdum in conflating it with Chavez (which I recall you got taken to town and made to look silly over) not to mention the China of Mao ZeDong is patently ridiculous.

Today, the morning after the election, Venezuela's two main opposition leaders have been carted off, presumably to prison. They were already under house arrest, having boycotted the travesty of an 'election'.

No doubt Corbyn will be along with a message of support for them any moment now.

Or he might take Ken Livingstone's line yesterday, that Hugo Chavez's failure to 'execute the establishment elite' has in large part caused the crisis.

Another instructive video, with a US Republican senator, Luke Messer and Gorgeous George Galloway proving my case:

I love the line Luke Messer quotes from Thatcher:

The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money

It should be a stark warning of where socialism ends.

Although people who vote for it are generally don't live in the real world, are very gullible (students this year), or just all three combined.

A stark warning from someone who cannot string a coherent sentence together or count. LOL

I think you mean Bolivarianism. As far as I know, no one's standing on, or voting for, a Bolivarian ticket in Britain.

Ah, Bolivarianism. Also known as democratic socialism. (Democratic )

Exactly the platform Corbyn, Abbott and McDonnell are standing on, although I can't see many voting for it, apart from the few students who still believe Labour will abolish their loans.

no doubt they did, as they were never around when a labour party like the one now was in power.

A generation that gets excited watching Love Island , Big Brother and the Kardashians shouldn't be allowed to vote, lol

I find it amusing that so many think the Yanks are thick and then fail to look at our own society.

..for a leader who is 68 years of age and policies are at least 50 years out of date.

The sad fact is that most voters are sheep, don't think too carefully when they vote, go with the sound bytes, what their mates do and aren't that smart. That's why only a minority of the voting population are rich (unlike the majority of Labour politicians, who are rich).

Suckers.....

To be fair I think the younger generations are way better educated than the old we all know the better educated tend to be left wing. Youngsters also tend to be less racist, sexist, xenophobia or homophobic than your average swivel eyed Tory.

Every week the goes by means more dead Tories and more youngsters eligible to vote - tick tick tick tock.

Sadly, the youngsters also lack historical perspective and feel. And to celebrate the death of human beings who may have a different political ideology? Wow. Nothing is more breathtaking then the self righteousness, narcissism and arrogance of the modern left.

Politics is not a matter of right and wrong, it's 'poles.' Where you stand on things, considering the rights and wrongs which exist on both sides. Such is the nature of life there is no absolute right and wrong. To demonise an alternative perspective is to tread in the footsteps of monsters.

The future looks bleak when political debate becomes ideological hatred. That my daughter is growing up in this world is terrifying.

Care to elaborate?

You haven't got the slightest idea about life in the fifties.

The UK is one of the worst performing countries for social mobility across the OECD. See exhibit 2 page 9.

http://img-stg.bcg.com/BCGSocial-Mobility-report_tcm38-165914.PDF

Knuckling and working hard may have made a difference in your day; you were lucky to be born in an era when social mobility was rapidly increasing. But those improvements have halted since the 1980s -indeed they have reversed for indicators such as income mobility. In other words, it is harder today than in the past to break the link between individuals parental background and their opportunities to climb the income and occupation ladder. Everyone can trade anecdotes and find outliers -and no doubt you think your children are special and talented; but the data speaks for itself, old boy.

I'm not celebrating anyone's death, just illustrating how the next generations will obviously become more and more influential and people are generally becoming more liberal in their views.

To be honest I think the divide between the older and younger generations will become more and more pronounced. We have youngsters working for us who have good degrees, doing a good job on a half decent salary and whom owning a house is a pipe dream. 5 more years of Conservative austerity, plus the Conservative Brexit - can't see many youngsters turning.

The point of the thread is not what a useless bunch the Tories are, who are responsible for blocking the aspirations of a whole moped gang of young people, all smarter and better educated than the previous generation. No, we get that there are a proportion of society who would never vote for a Conservative party, often based on blind, uninformed, dogmatic ideology.

What the point is that this myoptic group are obviously not smart enough to realise that the answer is not with a Labour party that follows policies, the results of which we can see in Venezuela today.

Anyway, don't worry guys. The answer is that the old Tories will die sooner than their children. This one hopes that the money I spent on my children's education, (after tax) and the loans that enabled them to buy their own homes, will mean at least they won't dance on my grave. After all, it was Conservative values that earned that money and paid that tax.

As Oscar Wilde said: "With age comes wisdom, but (in the case of Jeremy Corbyn) sometimes age comes alone."

An official United Nations report has laid the blame for serious human rights violations in Venezuela firmly at the door of the Maduro regime, which has killed dozens and imprisoned and abused thousands.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/venezuela-human-rights-violations-nicolas-maduro-un-responsibility-highest-level-united-nations-a7882061.html

No doubt St Jeremy will be making a new statement condemning the anti-democratic and human rights-violating regime. After all, as he himself said: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."

This would replace his statement yesterday, which was carefully neutral.

The usual left wing losers will be embarrassed when they read this thread. I am betting they will all follow their leader and fail to acknowledge the failure of the socialist experiment in Venezuela. Still, I don't think anyone expects that. It will be the same in a couple years when the EU experiment also fails.

Here's the arch-Corbynist Chris Williamson, going a rant on the propaganda arm of a hostile state. Ken Livingston did much the same with Andrew Neil the other night, and got taken to the cleaners. Neither of them seems to grasp a single relevant fact about the current crisis in Venezuela.

On Kremlin Today, Williamson blabbers without interruptions (of course), but it's so patently swivel-eyed that he actually comes off as much more of a cretin than Livingston. That is some achievement.
