January 18 transfer window

Did our managerial maestro have anything to say about any incomings at his press conference earlier? Especially given we appear to have wasted a week before a vital winnable match to bring someone in.

He can feel everyone at the club needs to give more !

The issue is wages not price of players - we would break the clubs wage structure if we sign any of the high profile players we're linked to and that means more players (who are underperforming) asking for a pay rise, there may well be match-top earner clauses.

We won't see Theo, but what we might see is signings from further down the food chain or unknowns.

Sky saying former Watford striker Odion Ighalo wants a move back to the Premier League. £20 mill release clause, with interest from 2 unnamed Prem clubs - we linked with him in the summer? 29 this year, so doesn’t seem very ‘us’...

Not a sniff of anyone signing. Unfortunately for us we received a world record fee for a defender before the window even opened. Our board are surely not that stupid to have not preempted every player we go in for will have there price tag elevated just because we are deemed cash rich? Normally we hold out to get the best deals which is admirable in normal circumstances but we are in a mess and there has been no evidence pellegrino can turn it around by himself. How many games have we actually played well in this season? 3 or 4?

I would love to know the thought process in deciding to sell vvd before window opens but not be prepared to pay a premium for players (fees or wages) to give us a better chance of escaping relegation by getting them in early rather than 4 weeks down the line where we could be more or less doomed.

As it stands no one believes pellegrino can turn it around apart from the dimwitted board (supposedly). Players have zero confidence and have no licence to express themselves outside of a rigid and dull system we play. Our best hope is to inject some experience and life into the squad with known quality of players even if just loan deals but pay the wages required.

Our next 4 games include Watford, Brighton and WBA. These are games we need to win but there is no chance of that without strengthening squad. nothing else will change. Same players will continue to play backward passes then get nose bleeds when they get anywhere near opposition box. Pellegrino ain't going anywhere. He's the perfect yes man for the board. That crap today about pellegrino being grateful for board being worried and concerned about improving squad. Ffs.

According to RKFG in his interview; their focus is on creating the right 'environment' at St. Mary's. Something we all refer to as 'The Championship' - so no, I don't imagine there will be any signings in January.

I’ve been checking up on a couple of links from past windows TCDAJFU.

Sebastian Haller has got a better than 1 goal in 2 games scoring rate for Eintracht Frankfurt since he joined in the summer, specialising in late goals apparently, including the Bundesliga goal of 2017 for this scissor kick. (Although would have probably been disallowed in this country!) https://igeeksoccer.com/sebastian-haller-wins-bundesliga-goal-of-the-year-video/

Wylan Cyprien that we were linked heavily with from Nice in Puel’s reign has now fully regained fitness since a bad injury, and apparently changed the game when he came on in the cup against Monaco the other night. (Although Nice still lost.)

Not that we stand a chance of either but both would improve us.

Wer'e linked with a summer move...

Like he will join a championship team!

Huddersfield have already agreed a deal for Pritchard so can't see them letting Maddison go too. Having said that he looks some player. Maybe reed could put a good word in.

Yep Haller’s an interesting one - exactly the type of physical player we need and is underrated on the ball. I like players who’ve done the business in different leagues - demonstrates a certain resilience and adaptability.

I don't suppose you understand the complexities of pushing transfer deals through in the current environment.

Every day that goes buy without major incomings will fuel those talking about the Gao's as asset strippers. If those kind of rumours start doing rounds in the press we really will get nobody decent in.
He's a property man. It's not about asset stripping it's about all the land around the stadium the Council are looking for someone to redevelop.

At the end of the day, no one will sign for us unless we put in some sort of relegation release clause in- we are far too down the league table to look attractive right now.

I can bet Les is probably offering contracts that mean the players wages get cut by 50% if relegated but offers no way out when we inevitability go down! Which rational player would even want to sign such a contract?!?!

Kelechi Iheanacho to be given rest of season to prove himself at Leicester. Expect a cut price deal to be on the cards in the summer.

If I could be arsed to revisit a thread where I said jury out to the miracle wonder kid who was oddly surplus to requirements. Would welcome him now though although must be reason he hasn’t kicked on.

[emoji633] Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has a buy-out clause in his contract of any bid over £4,000,000.

[emoji383] Crystal Palace have bid £4,000,001. [emoji23][emoji122]

We're not bidding as we are blessed with goalkeeping riches. Obvs

Kat has done most of that already so they haven't been left with much to strip. Gao probably had to persuade Kat to delay the planned sale of van Dijk until after the takeover before he'd agree to pay the 210 million into her bank account. Who is our head salesman Les left with now who he might find a wealthy Premier League customer for? Bertrand and Cedric. I suppose they must still also hope they can turn a profit on one or two of the players they invested in over the last 2 years but most have failed to sparkle in the St Mary's showroom and have attracted little interest so they'll have to be kept here or be sold at a loss.

Is that what we do then.... remind us when we did sign a few

Geezer who scored vs Newcastle (when Les ****ed up not getting another attacker) and geezer who came in and got a Efl cup runners up medal even though he never played a minute (because surprise surprise Les ****ed up AGAIN) !?

It's fascinating to see the club's transfer history laid out here. In each season, you can ask yoorself, did we strengthen or weaken the squad? Of course, how you interpret it is highly subjective but I'd say that in the last 2 with the sale of Mane, Pelle, Wanyama, Juanmi, Fonte, Rodriguez and van Djk and the purchase of Gabbiadini, Boufal, Hojbjrg, Redmond, Bednarek, Lemina and Hoedt it's weaker.

Less than confident this Guido Carrillo will set the prem alight, although he DOES look decent with his head which could come in handy. Would be nice to see us throw some big money on a proven prem striker but given our position, maybe he's the best we can get.
