Bringing JWP on in the 90th minute.....

WTF was that about? Absolutely bloody ridiculous and really sums up how far out of his depth MP is.

I assumed it was to take the corner given he is our dead ball specialist and given most of our corners were near post efforts when everyone was stood at the back post !

good decision. Boufal was out on his feet, and jwp perfect man to swing in the last few set pieces and crosses into the box with VVD pushed up front.
Not only that, but for all of the perceived limitations in his outfield play, his dead ball delivery is very, very good.

But this begs the question - why was he not playing from the start in place of the totally ineffectual Tadic? At the very least, his set pieces alone would have been worth being on the pitch.

Like several of our younger players (Stephens, McQueen, JWP) they have all been harshly treated by a nomark manager who cannot get the best out of a decent, not great, squad of players.

If he has to come on at all (it's a disgrace that he's getting anywhere near our first team but that's another story) then the 90th minute is the best time for him to come on as he can do the least damage.

We'd have very likely lost to Brighton if he wasn't playing.

Because when looking to win games of football, having people in your team who are incapable of playing the game is generally a bad idea.

What absolute tosh!! If he had have been playing yesterday, instead of the dreadful Tadic or equally awful Redmond, we might have actually had some balance in midfield, instead of Davis having to do everything on his own!

Don’t talk rubbish man. Redmond had a decent game & Tadic had his best game for a while. Yesterday both played better than JWP is capable of playing.

You were obviously watching a different game tp me. Redmond was pants! Every short pass was under-hit and all bar one long pass was over-hit. He got himself in some decent positions but his insistence to always try and get back on to his right foot, makes him so predictable and easy to defend against. Tadic was slightly better than he has been but that's not saying much. Unfortunately he's not a shadow of the player he was a couple of seasons ago. I think the crowd reaction when his number was shown, says more agree with me than you! Davis (who by the way was our best player by a mile) was exposed time and time again by the lack of support in midfield, which JWP would have given. Plus, when we can't score for toffee from open play, what's wrong with putting your best deadball player in the team?

JWP would struggle to get into most Championship sides. Only reason he is still here is because he's the poster boy of the academy.

There is rubbish and then their is utter bull****, but if people want to make themselves look like bitter pompey fools in public then go for it I guess...

Seriously. Do you not understand why he was put on the field at that moment?

Thing I've noticed with Redmond is that as well as being a bit slow mentally, his feet are always wrong, his body position is wrong: he's too much on to facing the ball; he has to take a number of touches rather than knowing what he wants to do before he gets the ball, his head is down and his decision-making is a bit crap; he can't adapt to what happens around him unlike e.g. Boufal.

Eh!!!!!

I know I looked at the clock after playing 3hours of the second half and it said only just 70 minutes, so I might have been distracted with boredom. But Redmond having a better game than Boufal??!! Have a word with yourself, Redmond did the same as he always does in the same way he always does, you may counter that he loses the ball more than Redmond but that's because he takes people on, but the one thing he does try to do is make an effort to get the ball back and often does.

As for your earlier comment that "Tadic had his best game in a while", if that's the case then we are in serious trouble!! His game was summed up perfectly in one moment by the cross field weighted pass to Cedric only 10 yards away straight out of play.

I thought Tadic was ok to be honest. Not only that but I also thought he showed a good attitude with regards to the urgency to score. Early on in the 2nd half he chased a ball that had gone for a throw to them and ran it back to their thrower, also did the same for a goal kick in order to stop the keeper wasting time (again). When he got sub'd he ran straight off to keep the game moving. Maybe small things - but things that show he had a good attitude to the game and knew it was important to keep the tempo high.

Tadic and Redmond have been crap to average at best for around a year now. Tadic is nothing near the player he was 2-3 years ago.

Both need long spells away from the team IMO, in fact as I can't see them recovering any form they probably just need replacing. Even if JWP 'only offers set pieces', which I dispute anyway, this is still worth it more than the dross Redmond and Tadic have been serving up on a regular basis.

But that doesn’t fit with peoples preconceived prejudices that are set in stone. Tadić & Redmond are Shiite, they played Shiite . End of. They’d decided that before they got to the game, and unless they scored were never going to change their minds. Both had their best games of the season, not much of a bench mark I know, but both did enough to start ahead of JWP next time (as did Boufal). Not that I think any of the 3 are particularly good players at the moment, there’s nobody playing that system we’ve got that’s better.

The one player who seems to get a free pass is Gabby who did absolutely **** all.

You know, during the game, i heard Hoddle comment with amazement to how JWP was not on the pitch seeing as we are incapable of scoring from open play and also thinks JWP is the best set piece taker in the league. and to be honest, i would agree with his opinion too, i dont see any body else in the league consistently put in top quality crosses, maybe we should turn some anger towards the players in the box who cant seem to finish unless its on a plate EG Davis at Brighton?.

For what it is worth, i agree, JWP is not the best player in the world, but my god, if we can mange to get on the end of one cross per game we should god dam score a goal a game, picture Andy Carrol or Lambert on the end of them JWP free kicks / Corners, you cant say any one else in the team is even good enough to wipe JWP's boots before he take a free kick / Corner, are team is just the worst crossers in the league, Cedric is the worst crosser ive ever seen and he is a European champion HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

On a serious note, only a handful of players in this division who can put them in like JWP does and no one does it consistently as good as JWP.

think it'll be good to get JWP on more ( maybe wing back or right mid ) and Austin and gabbie on too, maybe playing 3 5 2 i dont know,it is not my job, its why we pay a manager **** loads a week to sort this **** out, but JWP needs to be on the pitch as we are more likely to get relegated than score from open play ATM.

I think Redmond and Tadic offer more, but i also think they slow the game down to much or want to many touches instead of keeping it quick, and both tadic ad redmond have a bad habit of miss placing passes, even simpleton ones like 10 yards away ( how tadic manged to fluff a simple 10 yard pass to cedric is amazing on its own.) but if we are to play a defensive minded slow pace game as we are doing, then i dont think either tadic or Redmond should play as they go against how we want to play.

No blame can be laid on to Gabbie as he can only play as well as the service he gets and tbh, i think he gets far better service with JWP on than he does with tadic and redmond on together as them two are just far to slow in getting rid of the ball / seeing a pass it just ruins it all for Gabbie.

Really think we should play 3 5 2 or 442 diamond with JWP on some where preff right center mid or wing back if playing 3 5 2 so he can use his range of passing and be on the pitch for free kicks and corners cause every one else just cant take free kicks / corners, well they can, but god help them to ever get it past the first defender.
