What have we got in return?

We still have a very good squad here we've paid for with that money. Just because they're being mismanaged doesn't change their quality.
I'm not sure we do have a very good squad here any more. We have a host of average players who could definitely do better than they currently are but imo are no better than midtable or below.

So with Liverpool sending around £170 million including SRL. With the rest, Shaw etc around £105 million.

In total approx £275 million, what have we got in return?

Don't think £275m as a headline figure is right, it's too simplistic. Should look at net proceeds from those players. It doesn't take account of purchase costs, or that players were signed as direct replacements for others who left - so if we'd kept lallana for example, would we have ever signed mane?

Eg

Lovren/Toby/vdd - You only include the £95m sale proceeds from Lovren and van dijk, but ignore the £12m spent on him (and Toby loan fee etc).

Same for lallana/mane

Etc

Isn't a better question "what have THEY got"? £275m and they've still won bugger all!

This.

Got into the champions league what twice in about the last 6-7 seasons? One runners up spot and even finished below us.

VVD is also not the magical solution to their problems, he'll improve them but their problems are defending collectively and organisation.

Liverpool have invested a total of £170m on Southampton players since 2014: Van Dijk = £75m Mané = £34m Lallana = £25m Lovren = £20m Clyne = £12m Lambert = £4m Total = £170m

Don't forget we have to take off Vvd's sell-on fee due to Celtic, also take-off what we paid for them to get a true analysis of what these moves have contributed in terms of cash.
